Louisiana-bred trivia
With Louisiana Champions Day tomorrow, I thought it would be a good time for some Labred trivia. Each answer was a Labred, accredited or not.
Bret Thomas went on a tear one spring in the 1990s with this pair of Louisiana-breds, one a 3yo and the other a 4yo, winning the New Orleans Handicap, Risen Star, and Arkansas Derby. The older horse became the first Labred to win a million, and he did it the hard way before the dawn of slots-fueled purses. The older horse finished third in a Grade 1 as a 3yo and as a 4yo. The younger horse defeated a Kentucky Derby winner in Hot Springs. Name them both.

Correct. I thought Scott would be the harder one. I will post some more when I get back from the grocery.

This fleet filly won the Fair Grounds Oaks, then was DQed from first in the Fantasy. She went on to run second in the Test to a BC Sprint winner and win the Alabama. She was a Labred, but not an accredited one. I would name the sire, but that would give it away.

Up the Apalachee.
Ben Perkins shipped this filly to New Orleans to win the Champions Day Lassie. John Franks purchased her from New Farm, sent her to Bobby Barnett, and she went on to win eight stakes races, including the Humana Distaff. Both words in her name end in a vowel. Name this Z filly.

Zarb's Magic was such an awesome horse. One of my favorites of all time and not because of his Graded races but when he was running for tags at Arlington. 23 for 69 lifetime, 45 for 69 ITM finishes, almost 900k earned.
Come to think about it, he would be have been one hell of a turf sprinter in this day in age. |
