Daddy Long Legs
I think he's one of the most interesting horses to watch coming out of the Breeders Cup -- and I hope he stays in America to race on turf here.
He flopped on dirt while finishing 12th in the BC Juvenile... but his super fast prior win on turf on Sept 24th at Newmarket keeps looking better. Only two horses he faced on Sept 24th at Newmarket have since run back. * 3rd place finisher Wrote (beaten 3.75 lengths) made a mockery of the BC Juvenile Turf field at 11/1 odds this past weekend. * 4th place finisher Rockinate (beaten 5.25 lengths by Daddy Long Legs) returned to win a Group 3 stakes at 8/1 odds in his only subsquent start a few weeks ago. And we know the Daddy Long Legs race was super fast to start with -- because the final time for a mile was 1:37.77 seconds. Just 0.17 seconds slower than the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes for older Fillies & Mares on the same exact day, same exact course, same exact distance, and same exact card - just 1 hour apart in post time. Together was drowned in that Group 1 for 3yo and up females that only went 0.17 seconds faster ... and, for the same connections, she has since run 2nd in the Grade 1 First Lady at Keeneland before beating Winter Memories and Summer Sooiree in a Grade 1 one week later. If they keep Daddy Long Legs in America ... expect huge things for him on the turf (and possibly synthetic) all next season. Hopefully they send Wrote back to Europe and leave him here. |

I can't think he'll stay here, as the Royal Lodge is a pretty important race (thus he's a viable contender for the English Classics) and there are absolutely no races of consequence for him in the U.S. until the Derby undercard race.
Of course, a cool plan would be to target the Blue Grass over the winter, and if he flops there reroute to the turf race instead of the Kentucky Derby. What did you think of Crusade's race? I guess the jock thought he ran "like a sprinter" as he made an interesting advance down the backstretch before flattening out down the stretch. He's by a dirt sprinter out of a dirt sprint filly so I would presume he's more likely to stay here or return permanently. As far as I could tell, his Group 1 race wasn't highly rated and he was a big longshot when he won. |

I suppose it's way more likely he will go to Europe the more I think about it. Sometimes they leave these 2yo's behind, though. Quote:
I haven't had a chance to study the replays for Saturday yet. That is certainly a sprint pedigree on Crusade like you say. |

Well it sounds like they will be sending him back.

He's a super nice turf and synthetic prospect.
They're wasting time if they're thinking dirt. He's got to be one of the best 3yo's in Europe off of that killer win at 2 in his final Euro start. |

The Bloodhorse says Kentucky Derby next for Daddy Long Legs.
He was 9/1 today because of a dirt race -- he was a deserving heavy favorite in this race today if not for the BC fiasco on dirt. It's just more stupidity from Coolmore. He has a better shot of winning the Grade 1 turf race for older males one race before the Derby than he does of taking the Derby. |

Doug. I hope you bet the hell out of him on Saturday.
Nice work either way. |

horse has no shot in Derby, Coolmore/Tabor/Smith have sent over far better horses to not so good results. Off a long layoff from Ireland to win a race in Dubai, then fly to Kentucky to win the KY Derby on real dirt, forget about it. Hes not even a superhorse, only then would you consider it.
