Newt blames bad debate last night on lack of audience cheering

Mr. Gingrich, a former House speaker, on Tuesday morning threatened not participate in any future debates with audiences that have been instructed to be silent. That was the case on Monday, when Brian Williams of NBC News asked the audience of about 500 people who assembled for a debate in Tampa to hold their applause until the commercial breaks.

In an interview with the morning show “Fox and Friends,” Mr. Gingrich said NBC’s rules amounted to stifling free speech. In what has become a standard line of attack for his anti-establishment campaign, Mr. Gingrich blamed the media for trying to silence a dissenting point of view.

“I wish in retrospect I’d protested when Brian Williams took them out of it because I think it’s wrong,” Mr. Gingrich said. “And I think he took them out of it because the media is terrified that the audience is going to side with the candidates against the media, which is what they’ve done in every debate.”

I get it. Illegally occupying a government building chanting protest slogans is free speech. Applause at a political debate not.

(by the way, I've always decried illegal occupation of buildings on this list. So calling someone a hypocrite for something they do not believe just makes you look stupid. Again)

If you want a controlled audience, than dont invite any audience at all. Just do the debate for the tv cameras.

The audience rudeness at televised political debates is a very recent thing. Most adults used to know that if they were invited to sit in the audience to watch a political debate live, it wasn't about them.

And Newt demonstrated last night his inability to respond live to attacks and accusations. The only thing Newt does is blow dog whistles and lecture. Newt has been in government for 40 years. He's nothing new, and we've seen his complete bag of tricks 20 years ago. The sudden infatuation with Newt is laughable, especially by the Tea Party. Newt is the consummate Washington insider lobbyist, making his money off influence peddling. His taking credit for Clinton's accomplishments just gets better and better as Newt gets more and more grandiose in his claims.

American politics have been anything but civil in the past. You're wrong yet again.

the speaker of the house... ya know, the most important person in congress.. had nothing to do with accomplishments in the 90's?

Do I need to give you a basic rundown of how the government works.. especially how bills are formed? I probably could find some old slides from 5th grade..

Neal Boortz who is so far right he went over the edge blasted Williams on his radio show this morn...lamestream media liptard hack among other things..Newt is his buddy as is Herman Cain...I catch his act for about an
hour in the a.m....very entertaining and keeps me in laughs...

Last nite Stewart and Colbert nailed the Newtster...and Colbert showed his rally in SC where he asked voters to vote Cain which would be a vote for him..Last nite he said Cain was NUMBER 1...1% that is..
