Bad Day
Last night I found out what it is like to have your horse shatter his front cannon bone. In a freak accident my 9 yr old Working Cow Horse gelding shattered his cannon bone and the bone punctured the skin. I held his leg for about an hour and a half until the vet could come to put him down. We pulled 15 different pieces of bone out of his leg and had no choice but to put him down. It was horrific and I will have a hard time with this for a while. Kordell was a great horse with a huge heart. He pushed thru pain and gave me everything he could. He stood strong until the end just not how I wanted him to go out. Luckily no one was else was hurt (besides some minor scrapes, bruises, etc) and my kids didn't see it.

Wiphan, I am so, so sorry for your horse and yourself. What a horrific experience. You stood by him and helped him to the end. What a terrible but strong thing you did for him. I'm so sorry for your loss, and for your friend losing his life in that manner.

I am so sorry.
I know nothing that I or anyone else can say will help through this painful time. I do want to say though that he was lucky to have you. That you being there through that very sad last hour and a half... you are so brave and have such compassion. That is the most honorable thing you could have done. It doesn't seem possible now but one day you'll be able to think of him and smile again. I hope that day comes soon. |
