![]() As they say, "the rich get richer and the poor get poorer" and Woodbine on Saturday proved that
axiom to be true. Cruzan cashed a ticket in the 4th and managed to show a profit and gets the points associated with the place spot. Cruzan's lead lasted until the 8th when Roamin and Starship Jubilee swooped on by and nailed a easy win. Roamin in 2019 is like the Energizer Bunny. He keeps going and going and continues to draw away from the ROI field. Congrats once again Tom. Now for the bad news. Indian Hemp hit a $1007 superfecta in the 8th but by my calculator the wager was $72 and not $36. As always I never make things official until the results are viewed and objections are posted. If I made an error please someone let me know. See you all next week wherever Ruffian sends us. WIN... Roamin... +$350.00... R 8 $100 WIN---#8 $9.00 X 50... $450.00 PLACE... Cruzan... +$2.50... ![]() Ruffian, I refer you to your post of September 9, on exactly the same subject. The solution to your problem is exactly the one that you stated then.
![]() Surely you recognize the rhyme and meter: SECONDITIS SYNDROME YA WIN SOME - YA LOSE SOME ~ OR SO IVE BEEN TOLD BUT THE 2ND PLACE TROPHY IS ALL THAT I HOLD I TRY VERY HARD TO PICK WHO WILL WIN AND YET WHEN ITS OVER IT'S A 2nd AGAIN! WAS A 'BIZZY CHANNEL' A 'SMART REMARK' TOO CLOSE DOESN'T COUNT ON THE WIN BETS I DO A LESSON TO BE LEARNED NEXT TIME WHEN I RACE THAT MAYBE CONSIDER TO ALSO BET “PLACE!” |

![]() Probably not much consolation to Indian Hemp, but maybe he showed us the way to make our last gasp, "hail Marys" in this contest, although I think it would indeed take a miracle for someone to beat Tom. I think he pretty much had us all beat after the Belmont Stakes and it has only gotten worse since. Our situation kind of reminds me of what Keith Jackson would say when a football team like Louisiana Tech was taking a serious drubbing from one of the perennial football powers like Oklahoma, but would in the final minutes of the game maybe score a touchdown. Keith would always say something like(if you are a Louisiana Tech fan) "let your imagination run wild." I miss Keith. He had the most pleasing voice and was always a pleasure to listen to.

I'm the genius that thought it was ok to leave City Boy out of my picks entirely. Seemed logical to me. He ran and was beaten 6 straight times at the sixty two five level. ![]() ![]() |

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-= WHY IT WOULDNT = $6.50 FOR 2nd IS USELESS IN ROI ![]() *** ALSO I prefer dividing my hundred dollars ![]() * Putting money on WIN ONLY * ![]() RARELY DOES PLACE $$ ![]() |

I'll pass over the fact that the $6.50 payoff was the show payoff not the place. From a handicapping perspective, the player who likes a longshot (let's call him Reconfigure) and plays him $2 WP would of course wish that he won at 24-1, but would take a lot of consolation in getting a return of $10.60 on his $4 wager for Reconfigure's second place finish. You could have a winning day at the races with a couple of picks like that. You could also finish in the top couple of places in the ROI quite often with a payoff like that. I tend to be heavily driven in my wagering by numbers and probability. After all, the object of wagering is to win more than you have bet. It's been my experience that 24-1 shots probably finish second much more frequently than they win - if a speed horse, might get to the lead and be good (or lucky) enough to hold off all of the closers except one. If a closer, might make a strong run at the finish and be able to run down all of the opponents except one. That's why they are 24-1 in the first place. Naturally, the most likely result is that they won't hit the board at all, but that's a story for another day. |

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPSADOODLE ![]() ~ However Even a $10.60 PLACE Would not have been enough to matter in ROI With subtracting $100 from the total winnings of the day ![]() Unless one of my other wagers hit the big time ![]() So I shall continue with my usual Frisky Feline Fetish Of WIN WAGERS And Whine With Wilted Whiskers When They Run 2nd ![]() |
