Brad Cox leads all trainers with a roster of 10 3-year-olds in Pool 4 followed by Steve Asmussen (6) and Pletcher (4). Jockey Luis Saez has ridden five Pool 4 entrants in their last start: Determinedly, General Jim, Instant Coffee, Kingsbarns and Tapit Trice. Following Pool 4, there will be two additional opportunities for fans to wager early on contenders targeting the 149th running of the $3 million Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve (GI) on Saturday, May 6. Pool 5 will run March 10-12 and Pool 6 is March 30-April 1. The lone Kentucky Oaks Future Wager will coincide with Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool 5 on March 10-12.

A couple horses that I’ll be keeping my eyes on the odds for:
Jace’s Road at 80-1. This horse didn’t like the slop. I think he’s talented. He was something like 69-1 last pool so I imagine he’ll be above 80-1 this pool. I’ll take those odds on the chance he bounces back on a dry track next time out. Mage at 50-1: The FL contingent doesn’t look that great to me. This horse has a nice maiden win and runs for a trainer that will get lost in the sea of Cox and Pletcher and Asmussen horses. So I suspect he goes off well above 50-1 and may take a stab depending on where he ends up. |
