Default Children of Men

Is awesome. Best movie I've seen this year.

No, but I'm really psyched to see "Little Children." I'd watch Kate Winslet read the phone book.

Let me know how the quality of the "camerawork" is. Oh wait, they probably just download them from somewhere now, I guess. Shame- makes that really funny "Seinfeld" episode a period piece.

The preview looked interesting, but when I read more about the plot, it kinda turned me off. I guess I will have to see it now!
Well, far be it from me to get ahead of myself.

Hee hee. Actually, I hadn't even caught that- thank you for my first chuckle of the day (best chuckle I've had all year). I guess my mental movie year runs Oscar Awards to Oscar Awards. What is that? Feb to Feb? Though I've had no use for the Oscars since they gave Best Actress to Julia Roberts over Ellyn Burstyn. Yet somehow I still watch them.

"Children of Men" is dark, mind you. But beautifully done. I'm now crushing on Clive Owen as bad as I am on Daniel Craig.

Like I said, best chuckle I've had all year.

I also liked "28 Days Later" but this film is definitely pure science fiction, not horror. (I thought of that movie in some of the shots, though, too- also due to the devastated London, I think.) It was engrossing enough that even after chewing out a bratty teenager who started text-messaging during the film, I still got completely caught up in the film again. (It helped that the teenager kept her $!#*! phone off until the movie was over. Generally I like teenagers, but once in a while...)

I also thought " Children of Men " was excellent but " Pan's Labyrinth " may be the best movie I saw recently.

There's actually some decent stuff out there. " Little Children " is very good too by the way.

Altman festival coming shortly to Film Forum. That should be the movie highlight this month.

I also loved Pan's Labyrinth-- I think I posted about it New Year's Eve (so I can call that one the best movie I saw last year, Bababooyee. ) Lovely, lovely movie. I love the woman who played Mercedes-- she was also great in Y Tu Mama Tambien.

BTW, have you read "Easy Riders, Raging Bulls?" The stuff on Altman is really entertaining.

I didn't read it but probably should.

I used to see Altman all the time in Upper West Side restaurants. I love his movies.

Easy Riders, Raging Bulls is about the revolution in film that ran roughly from 1969-1980. Very fun read (equal parts analysis of the films and dish about the people behind them) and inspired me to go out and rent a lot of those terrific films I'd never seen. The 1970s was a great decade for film.
