I don't know, but this was interesting to me...

None of the derby contenders listed have Princequillo as their sire line.

yes cajun, that list is a graphic example of the lack of diversity in the sire lines. one of only two Ribots in the bunch is the #1 contender, NBLSB. and a Princequillo line sire is almost unheard of today.

Crazy as this sounds, Sumitas... I look for Princequillo in the dam's line as a way of filtering my derby contenders. I'm not sure how the the large heart factor is passed down, but it seems to me, that most horses with Princequillo in the first 5 or 6 gens of their dam's line can go longer. Am I wrong?

Princequillo does put a lot of stamina in a horse. Unfortunately, they take longer to mature and in today's market early maturing speed sells. For a good history of Princequillo check out this llink.
