1/28 (GP): $12MM Pegasus World Cup

The Stronach Group announced May 11 the inaugural running of the $12 million Pegasus World Cup will be held Jan. 28 at Gulfstream Park. With a purse that would make it the world's richest Thoroughbred race, the Pegasus World Cup will be contested at 1 1/8 miles on dirt and was created to attract the world's biggest stars in racing. The race will be restricted to to 12 entries, whose connections will be required to pay $1 million each to buy a spot in the Pegasus World Cup starting gate. The entrant's owner can then race, lease, contract or share a starter or sell their place in the starting gate. Original entrants will also have the first option to participate in future Pegasus World Cup races. All entrants will not only be competing for the world's largest purse but they will also share equally in 100% of the net income from handle, media rights, and sponsorships from the Pegasus World Cup, according to the Stronach Group announcement. "The Pegasus World Cup will be conducted to the highest standards," said Frank Stronach, founder and honorary chairman of The Stronach Group, "and will held on Saturday, January 28th, thereby avoiding a conflict with either the Breeders' Cup or the Dubai World Cup." The Stronach Group also announce that Jack Wolf, founder of Starlight Racing, has been retained as the CEO of the Pegasus World Cup to assist with the marketing and coordination of the race. Jack Wolf is the co-managing partner of Starlight Racing. Tom Ludt, who is a board member of the Breeders Cup, will also be assisting with the marketing and coordination of the Pegasus World Cup.

Mr President, the AP Putin undefeated colt has raced on 3 continents and Trump has promised his victory , no matter what it costs..Komrad.

if memory serves me, it was the last furlong, the 10th , in which the grey got to Chrome. and as baffert says, the grey one is a big lanky colt well horse now, that needs all 10 to get all played out in full stretch.
which leads me to another ramble, a quarter year has past, a new season, both are older... 6 to 4... will the final 220 yards shorter mean that Chrome is gonna win the big money to sum an enormous bank role my monies on Mr President the AP Putin colt

Weird hypothetical and likely dumb question...
You're basically buying a spot in the starters gate am I reading that right? So if you're NYRA or Woodbine, etc...can you buy a spot then run an race where the winner gets the spot in the race? Plus as the owner of the spot you get to share in the revenue,. etc all the other perks they're pushing?

It's a crazy idea that might actually work. I like it.
Note that all owners would be sharing in the handle (could be strong- I figure $8-10 million so $2 million-ish in revenue), media rights (probably not much), and sponsorship (mid-6 figures) so the gamble drops to maybe $600k to win $7 million.

Pegasus World Cup Parking
Did anyone purchase from Gulfstream a parking pass to this event. A co-worker paid $50.00 to park in Cigar Lot B. She has the invoice, but has not received her parking pass. Several attempts to contact the track have failed.

Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) winner Hoppertunity
leads a group of graded stakes winners among 111 horses nominated to the five supporting stakes races, three of them graded, on the Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) program Jan. 28 at Gulfstream Park. A total of $1,025,000 in purses will be available in the stakes leading up to the first running of the Pegasus, with its world-record purse of $12 million. The Bob Baffert-trained Hoppertunity leads 30 horses by earnings nominated for the inaugural running of the $400,000 Poseidon Stakes at nine furlongs on dirt. Hoppertunity prevailed in the Jockey Club Gold Cup by a halflength over Effinex to pick up his second grade 1 victory. He earned $2.3 million in 2016 to push his career total to $3.9 million. Baffert, who is preparing Arrogate for the Pegasus, also nominated grade 1 winner Mor Spirit for the Poseidon. Stanford, winner of the Dec. 17 Harlan's Holiday Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream, was one of nine horses nominated by leading trainer Todd Pletcher for the Poseidon. Cherry Wine, second in the Preakness Stakes (G1) and a winner of his only start at Gulfstream, is also nominated.

maybe he should name races for the writers of the Gospels and epistles ? Just a thought should it be the matthew stakes, the mark stakes, etc.. or how about the matthew, mark , luke and john allowance race
