Life Can Just Be A
So, I decide last week to change car insurance companies. I spend the better part of the week in my off time calling, etc etc looking for the best plan and rates (not an easy task for someone who has had "the issues" that I have had). I find the company I want to go with.
This past Saturday night, March 3rd, I decide that I am going with Company X. Yesterday, Sunday, March 4th, as I am pulling out of the parking lot, an individual backs right into me. Does significant damage to the passenger fender, bumper cover and passenger door. I call the police but the will not respond because it was on private property. We exchange information. I call his insurance company last night. They call back today and are unable to reach said individual. Their is a chance I may have to go thru my existing insurance company. They can not tell me when they will be out to appraise the damage, sometime this week they say. Any insight on what I can do? I need to drop my current insurance company for a variety of reasons, but am in this pickle. Complicated situation. |

Curt, I really don't have an answer for you. Hope it all works out. Hold the pickle. |

I have no specific recomendations for your situation, but I have had my own problems in the past.. Perhaps you can ask your new company/agent for advice...general advice: you get what you pay for, cheaper is not better, you really only find out what type of company your dealing with when you are at their mercy, Progressive is absolutely the WORST!! I can recomend Auto Owners, the no problem company (no problems so far, 2 year customer of theirs).

also, you should get the best insurance you can afford-insurance isn't the time to go cheap. doesn't make sense to shell out a huge amount for a vehicle, and then go cheap on coverage.

Did you get hos personal details? If so, call him and keep calling his agent. He who makes the loudest noise gets the most attention. Don't take no for an answer or that they cannt reach him.
Good luck! Spyder from SC

1. Don't call the other guy's insurance company. They won't respond.
2. Don't call the guy. He won't respond. 3. DO call your insurance agent ASAP. Get them started on helping you file a claim. 4. DO take pictures of your damage and, if possible, the location of the accident and the other guy's car. 5. DO try to push back the effective date of your new coverage. Assuming you were covered by yor "old" insurance carrier when the accident occurred, they will be more helpful to an existing customer than a former client. 6. In the future, keep a cheap single use camera (with flash) in your vehicle. When you're in an accident snap off the entire roll. $5 well spent. |

FYI
I still was insured thru my existing insurance company, whom I have been with for close to 10 years. I was ready to make a change, this week in fact, untill this individual crashed into my car. No I had not been drinking. I have not been behind the wheel with any amount what so ever of alcohol since my last arrest which resulted in a ton of legal trouble which many on here know of. Those days are behind me. The guy who hit me, his insurance company was out today and did an estimate on my car. $2,300 is what they have it at. I then went to the local body shop which has a great reputation and had an estimate done. I did not tell them about the previous estimate. They had it at just a little above $2,000. I was shocked. Thought they would have been higher. Only thing now that I am waiting on is for his insurance company to reach him, once that happens the wheels will be put in motion and my baby will be fixed. The rental car company is even gonna meet me at the body shop when I drop off my car and when it is done they will pick up the rental. If his insurance company is unable to reach him, the repairs will still be made but I will have to wait a couple extra days. All systems go. Thank God. |
