Worst/Best Sports stadium venues
What do you think are the worst/best areas where a major sports facility is located and is still in use?
My top 5 worst: 1. USC-LA Coliseum-...Baaaaad neighborhood 2. Univ. of Miami-Orange Bowl ...worse neighborhood 3. Verizon Center in Wash DC Wizards arena... 4. Giants Stadium- Hey it's swamp area! 5. Yankee Stadium- used to be worse in 70's. Now there's thousands of police each game! Top best areas: 1. Del Mar Racetrack...where the surf meets the turf! 2. Camden Yards-Baltimore-...crab cakes...beer gardens...Inner Harbor 3. Jacobs Field-Cleveland...great bars nearby and R &R Hall of Fame 4. Wrigley Field...oh so close to Billy Goats Cheeseburgers 5. Rose Bowl in Calif. How great is that sunset on Rose Bowl Day Don't include GOLF COURSES...they are almost always on Sacred Ground...

Due to the fact I can't keep track of the constant changing names I'll just go by the home team. White sox home stadium area is rough as was old Chicago Stadium. Another interesting topic is toughest places to be a visiting fan. I'll go with a Philly Eagle or Oakland Raider game. Have been to both with no particular rooting interest and was amazed at the abuse opposing fans took.

Back when the Knicks mattered there was nothing quite like MSG on the night of a big game. Also Vegas is unbelievable the night of a big fight. Tremendous buzz.

Here in Houston we've seen a revitalization of downtown because of the Toyota Center (Rockets) and Minute Maid Park (Astros). Before the Rockets moved downtown the area around the Summit was and still is pristine.
Unfortunately we still have the eighth eyesore of the world sitting next to Reliant Stadium which is a beautiful place. NT |

how about superdome, bourbon st in new orleans, new years eve before the National Championship game. Bama 34- miami 13.
old Legion Field for the Alabama-auburn game when the stadium was split 50-50. outside the stadium, the Bama RV nation, tailgates, pit beef bbq's, the bars acrossed the street. as much as i hate to say it, un. tenn. 106,000 is pretty impressive. most of the SEC is impressive.

I went to the Saints playoff game against Philadelphia. Never seen anything quite like it. Had a Steve Miller band concert right on the concourse outside the Dome. Place was insane 3 hours before kickoff. Inside was the loudest place I have ever been. It was a little scary in my section as there was pretty much chaos the entire game.

BEST
The Palestra: On the campus of U of Pa., plus a great place to see a basketball game Husky Stadium: Horseshoe shaped stadium with east end zone opened over looking the Harbour Oaklawn Park: Hot Springs area is great. Camden Yards: Second that PNC Park: Great area around the stadium in Pittsburgh WORST Meadowlands Sports Complex: Area sucks and traffic on Rt. 3 can be a nightmare Shea Stadium: Just don't care for the area and to much noise from planes taking off/landing at La Guardia. |

No doubt. I used to go to most games and when it mattered the place was incredible. I will never forget the night Jordan came back and scored 55. An amazing night. |

As a Yankee fan it is tough to admit this, but I love Fenway Park. Everything about it is great(except the fans). LOL! You guys are right about big games at MSG, nothing could compare to it in 94 when the Rangers and the Knicks were both in the finals. Also, I forgot what year it was, but watching the crowd shot when LJ made that 4 point play against the Pacers was one of the coolest things I have seen. It was pandemonium.
As far as the worst. Shea stadium is an absolute toilet, there are no redeeming qualities about the place! |

Camden Yards & the Inner Harbor are nice, but you'd better not go a few blocks in the wrong direction or you might change your mind!!
