Default Horse/best friend for sale

I have to sell my horse, Cal (Caledon's Prospect), he's a 19yo thoroughbred gelding, as kind as a horse can be, excellent for trail riding, 100% sound...anyone in the area (or out with transportation) interested, let me know either here or private message! He's worth 2000-2500 easily but I'll let him go for less to a good home. 16.2 hands, ran 79 races, 17-13-13 $128,436, stake winner at Charles Town. Excellent with other horses, animals and kids.

He's my best friend and I hate having to give him up so forgive me if I have no witty response.

Where are you Somer? I have a friend in NY who may be looking for a beginner lesson horse doing maybe three or four lessons a week. She is an EXCELLENT horse mommy. I would highly recommend her to anyone who wanted a good home for their horse. If she can't use him, she may know someone who could.

I can call her after work and ask her if she is looking yet. (I know eventually she was going to look for two new horses, one lesson horse and another off the track horse for herself.)

I am sorry that you are having to do this.

Buffymommy, I'm in Chambersburg, Pa which is south central, route 81 runs right past the town. Cal is a gentle horse, hasn't been ridden since my wife left last August so he'd need a slight amount of work. When we first rescued him, as soon as he got his weight back, he was used at the rescue center to give kids lessons so he's ideal for any level. I have a home if I can't sell him but really need some money!

I will ask her. I will tell her that you need some money for him that it isn't just looking for a good home. She is a trainer so she would be able to get him back into shape to be a lesson horse. I just don't know if she is ready for the lesson horse yet. She wants to semi retire her 28 year old ex-racer/show horse and only use him like once or twice a week.

Do you know if he has ever jumped crossrails or little jumps?

Somerfrost,
I just got back from the farm and wanted to let you know that I put the word out for anyone that comes along and is interested.
I've been doing a bit of riding lately, mostly on the pony horse for the training of my 2yo filly, Shot o' Bourbon. Knock on wood...all is going fine in that department.
I'll pm you if someone this way (Catskills in NY) shows an interest.

If it gets bad enough that you need to just let him go, there is a good retirement center down here in Arizona that might take him. I know that they take a great deal of retired horses, and know that it would be a good home.

Thanks...there is a woman locally that has a retirement home, she has one of my former wife's horses there and it's nice...she will take Cal but won't buy him. I really really need some money so I'm trying to find a nice place AND someone who is willing to buy him. If I can't find anyone, Cal will go there.
