Default This one really makes me ill

I got a stable mail informing me that my favorite 3yo from the 2003 crop, man among men, is coming off a long layoff and is entered for a 17k claiming tag at some track i've never even heard of!

he's going 6 furlongs and is 15/1 on the morning line!

where the hell is northlands park?

I always felt really sorry for this horse. how those idiot owners could give such an obviously nice horse to gary mandella instead of his dad will forever go unknown to me.

this is a horse that, while being trained by gary mandella, beat peace rules as a two year old and handed empire maker his ass as a 3yo!

why would hubbard sell this horse for so little that someone could afford to buy him and run him for a cheap tag??

Hearing stuff like this makes me respect the guys from Sackatoga a little bit more, who at least let Funny Cide "go out" a winner. At least not all owners are A Holes.

i expected him to be a top level horse.

in my eyes, he was the most talented horse in that entire crop, and i loved that win against empire maker.

i loved too that he was probably even better on turf!

How often did they try him there? I see his dam was placed in the Prix de l'Opera. If only he were a filly...

you know, after the sham stakes, i sorta dont recollect to well what became of him. i do seem to remember they kept changing plans for him though and that he seemed to miss workouts and races.

i think you may be right about the ark derby however, and if he ran there, he ran dismally.

he ran 10th that day, with 55-1 sir cherokee winning the thing. then they found later that man among men had an injury, put him up for the year.
guess it's safe to say he didn't come back from that well--a shame too, he seemed like a good horse.

not only beat empire maker, but ten most wanted as well.
