Indio Glorioso lands second leg of Argentina's Triple Crown by Michael Burns REPORT: ARGENTINA Gran Premio JockeyClub San Isidro, Buenos Aires INDIO GLORIOSO, runner-up to Ilusor in last month's Gran Premio Polla de Potrillos (Argentine 2,000 Guineas), returned with a vengeance to post a convincing win in the Gran Premio Jockey Club, the second leg of theArgentine Triple Crown series over 11/4m on the turf at San Isidro in Buenos Aires. Piloted by Uruguayan Julio Cesar Mendez, the three-year-old Honour And Glory colt tracked pacemaker Envy Me in second before surging clear in midstretch to cruise homea comfortable three-length winner for trainer Carlos Daniel Etchechoury, who captured the Argentine classic for the second consecutive year. Guineas winner Ilusor finished a disappointing tenth in the 11-horse field. The Gran Premio Nacional (Argentine Derby), the final leg of Argentina's national Triple Crown on November 10 at Palermo or the prestigious Carlos Pellegrini on the turf are under consideration as the next possible target for Indio Glorioso who tallied his second Group 1 victory on thegrass. Bred by Samuel and Guillermo Liberman's Haras De La Pomme, who also bred the runner-up, the Salt Lake colt Don Julio A in their San Antonio de Areco facility, Indio Glorioso races for Jose Mastellone`s Stud S. de B. |
