I was a bit taken back when I seen that too. Wowzers.
This means that they never really were in the Aaron Rowand sweepstakes??

Boras must own some "compromising photos" of some of baseballs executives. How the hell he scored $36 mil for 2 years is mindboggling...

This a great deal for the Dodgers. The salary portion of the contract is 9 and 15 mlilion which is below par for a guy like Jones. Jose Guillen just got a 3 year $36 million dollar deal from KC. Jones is a far better and more reliable player than him for the same money. He gives them an upgrad in center defensively which will help the pitching staff plus some needed power to the middle of the lineup. The reason that this really is a great deal for LA is the length of the contract. A 2 year deal is almost unpresedented nowdays and is the real key to this deal. Jones certainly will be motivated to get a long term deal after this one and it is almost like he will have 2 contract years. If he reverts to any of the prior seasons other than 2007 they will have gotten him for undermarket value. If he doesn't, they are only on the hook for 2 years and can unload him next year at the deadline with no strings attached.

The only catch is Pierre. He cant get rid of him because no one wants him. If they play him at a corner outfield position they are almost playing a guy short because his production compared to other corner outfield positions is so anemic and his arm is so disgraceful. Dont you think they wish they had signed him to a 2 year contract?

Just when I thought that this story had no potential to be spun in a fine light for the Trolley Dodgers, Cannon shows me otherwise.
A huuuuge upgrade in the field, most definitely. But something better happen with his stick. I guess Dodgers brass is hanging their hats on the fact that he will be playing in a contract year fashion. His next pay day hangs in the balance of this here contract.

I know he had an off year last year but if you get his usual production of 100 runs, 150 hits, 30 2bs, 35 HRs 105 Rbis with .265 avg, .340 OBP and .500 slg to go along with playing 95% of the time, having extraordinary range and a rocket arm the contract is a bargin. Even though he has played a long time he is only 30 years old. And while his range may not be what it was 5 years ago it is still very good. Would you rather have 4 years of Pierre for $45 mill or 2 years of Jones at $36? The only fear I have for the Scuds people is they decide to play Pierre in left instead of the young guys who are already better than him.

Chuck can sell, man.Important quality to have in his profession(dat commission b bitchin'.)Well, fact is his team didn't offer a contract, and that's cuz he doesn't give 100 %,and we don't need anybody else like that.Every time the Dodgers played the Braves,Scully would talk about how JONES' father told his son not to play "too hard." For somebody who has big hard-on for on base %,I am surprised he thinks he is a good signing. It's way too much jak for a guy who is not a winner.Every time we get a guy that others didn't want,we get the short end of the stick.Schmidt,Lowe,Kent,Drew,Pierre.....Stop picking up neighbors' trash. If they say they don't want that ****,then trust their opinion, and do something else. Before the season was over, they said they were not offering Andruw A CONTRACT....DUH...This was his contract year!! I don't want 2 contract years like that(paid for by charging a testicle for a beer.)"It's a better signing than Pierre" isn't a good reason to give this guy 36 mil.Almost every time I see this guy at bat he strikes out/pops up and quietly walks out to center(like he just took a wiz.)

In other words Jones a.k.a. Rob Deer is perfect for the team.
You have to admit though, no matter if he's Rob Deer or not, he's a major upgrade in CF. I just don't see why they want to trade Kemp. Maybe Ethier, but those 2 are definitely better than Pepe Le Pierre.

He surely was motivated this past year by doing a great Rob Deer impersonation.

I guess the previous 10 years where he was the best CF in the NL were a fluke?
