Blah. Apparently the announcement does not have anything to do with live racing... at least directly. They plan to put in a water park/hotel.. We can all rest easier now..

I've been to Fort Erie many years ago, it is a beautiful old track in a picturesque setting. Racing is not the highest quality but people looking to step back in time, I don't think they will be dissapointed. Hope they can keep this track alive.

Agreed.

If one has never been, it's worth a digression on your next trip to the Niagara Falls area.

I grew up near Cleveland, and had been to Niagara Falls a bunch of times. But until I took some California family for their first trip there, I had never returned to The States on the Canadian side of the Niagara river.

The drive down the Canadian side was so pleasant, peaceful and scenic. We had a very casual beer/patio dinner on the riverside at a neat roadside stop.

I've been nearly every place in the US, and the Canadian side of the Niagara River reminded me most of the miles just north of where the Ashley River flows in to Charleston harbor.

The best thing about making bets at Ft. Erie (I mean actually being at the track) is that the taxman doesn't take a cut, even for a big payout. (out of Uncle Sam's jurisdiction). Of course, it's always reported to the IRS at the end of the year anyway.

I should add that I've never actually had the chance to experience this.
