Atoned and Blackberry Road
Atoned headed to Illinois Derby, Blackberry Road to Arkansas
by Jeff Lowe Dogwood Stable has settled on race plans for Atoned and Blackberry Road leading up to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1). Atoned, runner-up in the Remsen Stakes (G2) and Tampa Bay Derby (G3) in his previous two starts, will be pointed to the Illinois Derby (G2) on April 5 at Hawthorne Race Course. Joe Bravo will ride the Repent colt for trainer Todd Pletcher. Blackberry Road, the fourth-place finisher in the Louisiana Derby (G2), will head to Oaklawn Park for the Arkansas Derby (G2) on April 12. Calvin Borel has the mount for trainer David Carroll. “We’re anxious to get to the Kentucky Derby with both horses because we think they will improve with the added distance,” Dogwood President Cot Campbell said on Tuesday. Atoned finished second by a neck to Big Truck at Tampa in his first start in nearly four months since the Remsen. He has earned $100,000 in graded stakes earnings, which puts him 24th on the list of Derby contenders compiled by Churchill Downs Racing Secretary Ben Huffman. Blackberry Road, the runner-up in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2) last November, is 21st on the list with $123,417 in graded stakes earnings. -Sparky

I must say, while I am not feeling the Smooth Air love around here as far as his chances, I absolutely love your idea to start this thread, been checking it all the time for both the Road to the Roses and just keeping a finger on what is going on...Good idea.....

Shaping up to be a very interesting weekend.
I haven't fallen in love with any in these crop yet, but am interested in seeing how Attoned responds for Pletcher after a much-needed start in the TB Derby.

That was depending upon what happened today, and I think it went well.” Churchill Downs clockers caught Adriano in fractions of :13, :25.40, and :37.80 and the colt galloped out five furlongs in 1:03.40. Longley was timed in :50.40 for his four-furlong move. Adriano’s move ranked 29th among 42 at the distance. “He went nice,” said Prado, one day after having won the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I) aboard Monba. “He started nice and easy, and he finished good. When I called on him, he was there. Graham was happy and I was happy with him.”

The dark bay colt could show up next in Saturday's Lexington S. (G2), according to trainer Todd Pletcher, who said he needs to talk it over with owner Cot Campbell of Dogwood Stable.
