WNBA
The WNBA draft is on. I have been waiting for this day all year. This is by far the most exciting hour in sports ever.

I can understand the black female players in an interview, but I never could understand the male black player when they are interviewed. She didnt say "you know" once in her interview.

I admit to watching 10 minutes. The most interesting part is when they show the highlight clips of the players and in most cases the stands behind them are pretty empty. Of course Peegarden will argue that they arent and womans basketball is better because there are no dunks or something like that.

basketball is a losing proposition for females. They use college to get educated instead of fooling themselves into thinking they will make a living playing with a ball. |

But... the women are on the whole, a heck of a lot better now than 15 years back. Progress has been made. Nonetheless: The truth is women are just not athletic enough to make play on a 10 foot basket interesting. I can count the number of tip ins on one hand I have seen in the WNBA. They get much less lift on their jump shots, so the better long range shooters are basically set shooters. Very stilted shots in many cases. It is not asthetically pleasing to watch. My daughter, who will actually play in an All-Star game this Saturday, would much rather watch the men play. The Boys All-Star game will be packed. I will get an excellent seat in the girls game. My daughter has no illusions about ability. She has played against boys. They are too strong, too quick, you name it. The only thing the girls might be equal is in hand-eye coordination, but even in this their reaction time is significantly slower. Now in Golf and Tennis women can have beautiful strokes and swings, it still looks good. Basketball allows the athlete to display pure athleticism more than any other team sport. So it follows that women just dont look as good playing the game. That being said I am almost certain my daughter could take the Cannon off the dribble. Feed the ball into Cannon down low, and my daughter is a pancake. |

When I was a senior in High School, I was the captain of the girls bball team, but I got a bad injury right before the season started and had to sit it out.
================ Would you mind explaining what a good injury is? |

There is one way you can keep the WNBA in business... maybe... without regarding nudity (and even then, who wants to see most of those "bruts" topless?)...
This should be the location of a few of the teams- Conneticut Nashville Charlotte And then the big markets. With the 3 cities listed above- All UConn alums will play for the Conneticut Team All Tennessee alums will play for Nashville All Duke and Carolina alums will play for the Charlotte team Then give New York all the Rutgers and other northeast chicks Let Houston have all of the Texas and LSU chicks and then give every other big market the rest of the baggage. That way there would at least be "local" interest in the teams. To be cont.

A few years ago, the Gopher women's team made it to the women's final 4 with their star Lindsey Whalen. They ran into UConn and Diana Taurasi, and got beat. But there was a lot of fanfare for the Gophers team and especially Whalen. So when she graduated, I thought the Minesota Lynx WNBA franchise should trade away their whoel team to get Whalen. Why? She'd at least in the short-term put some butts in the seats. She would've sold tickets.
There has never been any local interest in that franchise, and I'm surprised it hasn't folded or moved already. Whalen was there one chance to get some interest going, and the Lynx blew it. Whalen has been a decent WNBA player, nothin special, but it's not about talent. For a struggling league like the WNBA, it's about selling tickets! But that's why I'm saying give the Conneticut team all the Uconn Alums. At least that would keep people in Conneticut interested in watching the team.

A potential roster under my plan for the Tennesse team-
Could you imagine Candace Parker and Chamique Holdsclaw on the same team (I'm leaving myself open to get ripped)? But that would at least generate some nice buzz in the Tennesse area. Diana Taurasi, Nikisha Sales, Rebecca Lobo, Shay Ralph, and Kara Walters (yuck) being your starters for the Conneticut Sun? At least in Conneticut that could sell some tickets. I'm not saying this idea would sell out arena,s, but I have no doubt that it would sell more tickets, and drive up more interest.
