Default Most Interesting Comment....

From this past weekend of racing:

Trainer Steve Asmussen said Pyro came out of the Blue Grass "fine." It was his first and, one would assume by Asmussen's comments, last start on a synthetic surface.

"What can I say other than I sure won't run him in the Breeders' Cup," Asmussen said, referring to the synthetic surface at Santa Anita, where this year's Breeders' Cup will be run; Churchill Downs has a dirt main track.

Anyone believe this? If Asmussen really means it, I will be pulling extremely hard for Pyro to win the Derby and the entire TC or at least be one of the two leading contenders for HOY going into the BC and to see him not run because it's on a junk track. Yeah, this stuff really is the savior to racing.

The Santa Anita track - while a synthetic - isn't polytrack and races seem to be a little more truer.

As horrible as Asmussen's stats are on synthetic tracks - it makes you wonder if Curlin will be as overwhelmingly superior on it as he would be to all other horses in training over a natural dirt surface.

I witnessed Asmussen lose with each of his first 21 post time favorites at Presque Isle Downs meet last year - and 10 of those 21 were less than even money. Many of which looked on paper like they had to fall down to lose...and ran awful races.

Maybe three or four at the most had Keeneland or Arlington running lines.

I wonder if the Clark will benefit from the Breeders Cup being on a synthetic surface the next two years.

Has a decision even been made yet over what surface Santa Anita will have after this meet?

Isn't the Clark run on a dirt surface at Churchill Downs?

Any chance they'd consider taking him to the turf? Isn't the Arc technically the "richest" race in the world now?

If he didn't like polytrack, I doubt they are going to ship across the ocean to see if he likes turf.
