Too bad you are not 5'2'' or 5'3'' and about 112lbs. I am sure you would have more success than him and could really teach him a thing or two.

It would be a scientific breakthrough if Calvin had the ability to find this forum.

I was pissed when he was last on the backstreach.. F'in calvin, just because you did it with street sense last year doesnt mean it will work with DoC... hes not even a deep closer more of a stalker..

With all due respect going to Eight Belles and her terrific race, I think DoC was the 2nd best horse in the race. Granted I'm biased because I wagered around DoC

Just because he was sitting 20th half the race? Uh no. If he was sent mid-pack he would've more than likely been in all sorts of traffic trouble. AND he more than likely wouldn't have had the dream rail trip down the stretch.

Walking out of the gait and taking the left hand turn to start the race, giving up 5-6 lengths in the process hurt him more than anything.

Wasn't his best race the Southwest Stakes, a one mile race that saw him nearly 20 lengths out of it down the backstretch?

He also came from practically dead last in his maiden race.

He was able to beat my horse out of the show money

I believe they wanted Calvin to give them that trip.

News flash to ELA...this is a horse racing message board and this is the kind of thing that goes on here. I'm sorry if I struck a nerve, but he was only riding for 3rd out of the gate with a major contender.

Yeah, screw you Calvin, you took a contender who would have been closing from pretty far back, and gave him a great ground saving trip, kept him clear of trouble and beat everyone but the best horse in the race and an amazingly game filly.

How dare you give the best ride you could have given and only get the owners 3rd place purse money! What is wrong with you! You shouldn't ride again! You shouldn't be given a dime for that ride!

What is worse, is I bet you didn't even talk over what the game plan was with the trainer leading up to the Derby. Wow, you stink!

Cakes, great post!!!

Which part, riding for third or major contender? My guess...both.

There isn't adequate video for the race, so I'm only going by my chart here.

Only two horses in the race gained significantly over two calls (let alone at any point) in the race: Colonel John and Denis of Cork.

Smooth Air and Visionaire gained the 3rd qtr but couldn't sustain it the 4th.

And Colonel John backed up badly the last two calls while DoC gained in the stretch call and ran almost evenly from there to the wire.

Now, I never thought much of DoC before the race and also didn't think much of CJ before his LAST race (where he ran significantly better).

So, it might appear, given the results, that DoC ran a huge race and those who thought his last race was AWFUL are nuts.

But I wonder what happens if DoC is a bit closer to the pace early, and not loping along out of harms way, INSIDE, and at the rear of the field. My guess would be that he'd have folded like an accordion the 4th split; and probably much worse than CJ did.

Of course, another interpretation would be that he ran HUGE and the jock blew the race.

Sometimes there are areas and topics where reasonable people could disagree.

This isn't one of them.

Anybody who thinks that ride was bad might want to consider having his or her head (and eyesight) examined. If anything, that ride was extremely good, and was the main reason DoC was able to finish third.

My god, the triple crown season sure brings out some crazy nonsense around here.

the horse is a closer. what do you want. once they go 47 and change its over for him and colnel john. there was no pace the race worked out perfectly for the favorite. what could borel do add wings to the horse. sounds like one of my friends that bets supers and blames the jockey for not coming in 4th. these horses are slow , it never set up.

He's not that kind of closer. . . I've watched the replay a bunch of times and I think that if they had kept him closer it would've been close for second. . .
