Default Movies you liked that everyone else hated

Okay, so what are some movies that you liked and everyone around you hated? Be prepared to defend why you liked it if challenged... I'll start--

I really liked "Unbreakable" (my friend Vinnie calls it "Unwatchable")

And I really liked "Very Bad Things" and "Happiness."

Yes, I really do have a friend named Vinnie.

Well, lets see....I liked the Buffy movie despite the ax job by the studio, Domino was OK (I think one other person saw it), The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai is one of my favorites, Rabid (OK, I watched it to support Marilyn Chambers), Date Movie (at least Aly's parts)...and the best movie ever made that nobody saw...Serenity!!

That's an easy one for me. I love the movie Waterworld with Kevin Costner. It's hard for me to explain why, I'm just down with the whole concept.

It was trashed by the critics as one of the worst movie bombs ever and I don't know anyone who didn't dislike it intensely.

PS: I also liked Very Bad Things.

What a coincidence, Serenity is starting now. Never seen it. You'd recommend it?

I'll second Somer's approval of "Serenity." I enjoyed it a lot.

I didn't hate "Waterworld." I thought it was okay. Which was somehow more disapointing than if it had been the bomb the press claimed it was!

Hooray! ArlJim78 liked "Very Bad Things" too! I knew I wasn't alone! I thought it was hee-larious and by far the best thing Cameron Diaz has ever done.

Too late now I know but Serenity was a wonderful movie...to really appreciate it, you had to see the series (Firefly) first but Joss did a wonderful job with the background info so all you miss is the deeper understanding of the characters...Summer Glau is wonderful as the psychotic death machine, River Tam...boy can she slash and chop! Summer was a prima ballerina prior to turning to acting and her fight scenes show that skill!

Default Serenity

It wasn't my cup of tea and probably means a lot more to people that watched the series. Personally I had never heard of it before, the series or the movie. It was somewhat inventive but what I'll remember most is that the crew on Mal's ship were so good looking and have such great hair, which I think is no small feat when you're winging across the galaxy fighting a war.

Another observation about sci-fi in general, why do they always end up relying on people fighting each other in a hand to hand manner like with swords, judo, light sabers, etc? No matter how advanced humankind gets future wars always seem to end up with two guys having a well choreographed judo style fight. What's up with that? Wars aren't fought that way now much less in the future. Imagine if the battle of Baghdad boiled down to Rumsfeld (Yoda) and Hussien (Count Dooku) duking it out with swords in one of Saddams palaces.
