Default No Steroids or Medications for Casino Drive

I challenge Big Brown to run without all his steroids and drugs.

Another practice in Japan that will be followed with Casino Drive is the lack of medications on Belmont Day. Tada said Casino Drive would not be administered steroids or bleeder medication. He said there were no plans to administer Butazolidin either, although he left open the window for that to change, depending upon the horse. He said the medications, widely used in the U.S., are not used in Japan.

He'd be in trouble if he got bute. Not permitted race day in NY.

Not sure where you read anything about even giving bute, but I am pretty sure they know the rules.

So now we're supposed to view this as a matchup of good vs. evil?

Good luck with that.

I was under the impression that it was a macthup of Godzilla vs. Terminator.

That's it!!! Now, I get it . . . good vs. evil . . . this is like the Legion of Superheros vs. the Forces of Evil. It would make for a great comic book and cartoon -- wait, I think they already made those, LOL.

Considering you posted the quote....."He had no plans to administer butazoladin" I would hope you could figure that out.

Actually, semantics are being argued here. Horses can run on bute in NY just as elsewhere (curiously this does not show up in the DRF PP's like it does from other states). But, like other states, the administration has to be done 24 hours prior to post, not on raceday.

Yes, that is exactly right. The rules are pretty much the same now in most states if not every state. They are allowed to get bute the day before the race. As you said, I have no idea why they denote it differently in the Racing Form for certain states. The rules with regard to bute are the same in California, New York, Kentucky, etc.

The denotation of bute in the DRF is for race-day bute only -- correct Chuck? Andy? Is NY 24 hours out?

I don't race in CA, but I was under the impression that CA allows race-day bute, which in fact would be very different than NY.

Fortunately, I don't have to worry about any of this, LOL.

It can be in the horse's system on race day at certain levels. But the administration has to be no later than 24 hrs prior to post time. It cannot be given race-day.

The difference in denotation may simply be that in CA the trainer is obligated to announce the administration of the drug to the state veterinarian (for the purposes of post-race testing). In the event that a trainer fails to report it, and the horse gets tested, and is found to have acceptable levels of Bute in its system, the trainer is subject to being fined even though the horse was given Bute by the rules.
