Default Pyro returning Saturday

Likely to run (along with Recapturetheglory and Visionaire) in the Northern Dancer at Churchill.

Pure Clan will also try turf in the Regret..

If Da' Tara can, then they are a whole lot of horses that can make noise in this division.

If Pyro returns to his previous dirt form he could be a monster in this group.

I am very excited to see Pyro coming back. After his clunker on the Poly, then his disappointing finishing in the Derby, I think there is no bigger question out there right now than how he will do. Very true that if he can regain his previous dirt form that he will be a moster, and if not he is pretty much done.

come on now, until he ran up the track on the AWT, he was a big voice in the division. two off efforts, and now seemingly back to his former self.

nice effort by pure clan on the grass as well.

Seemed like a real fast race. I wouldn't be surprised if Pyro won the West Virginia Derby.

Pyro's just not very good. . . It sounds redundant - but what an awful race/field.

I agree - if he couldn't beat that field - he probably has cancer or aids or something like that.

I was shocked that he paid 9/5 though. Recapturetheglory is still elidigible for N2X races and he was uncontested on the lead in a paceless ILL Derby over a gold rail. I know there wasn't much pace in this race - but I figured Pyro's repute - diminished as it has been - would push him to odds on.

From glancing at the final times - assuming they don't split a variant -his Beyer will come back 2 or 3 points less than Curlin's and 7 points more than Hystericalady's.

However, something tells me you might see them split the 8.5 and 9f races.

He's just terrible. I mean, if he were a handicapper, he'd probably be going on and on about horses like Harlem Rocker and Undbridled's Heart. Now, THOSE are VERY GOOD horses.

They've both run more impressive races than Pyro in my opinion. . .

Is there anyone besides Big Brown that would somehow make that list more impressive? Guadalcanal beat Big Brown so does that mean he's better?

I don't know if that is fair to say about a closer who lost his races as a 2yo and then won them as a 3yo. If he doesn't get the same setup on the front end but still closes to win then I don't think the time is that important. I think he's a better horse from 8 to 8.5 furlongs that has his closing kick dulled as the distances get longer.

Put him under the care of a honest trainer and he'll end up being a 40k claimer.

That's my feeling as well.
