Default Two Bozos in one week! Helms dead..

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080704/..._us/obit_helms

Jesse Helms, a vile, hate-filled, obstructionist faux 'patriot' is dead. Sickeningly being mentioned with Adams and Jefferson because he died on the 4th. Adams and Jefferson would spit in his face for the disgusting manner in which Helms conducted himself in his years of 'public service'. An embarrassment to North Carolina for 40 years.

Here is an article about Helms. He was actually a Democrat until he switched to the Republican party in 1970.

http://www.wral.com/news/local/politics/story/1755723/

It's not mentioned in this article, but Helms and his wife adopted a 9 year old boy with cerebral palsy. He sounds like a terrible, evil man to me. He may be as evil as animal right's activists.

If someone has a different opinion than you do, it's a good idea to label the person as evil.

You may be right. He only called him "vile and hate-filled". Just because he thinks that Helms is "vile and hate-filled", it doesn't mean that he thinks he's "evil".

Helms was not a politician. He stated his views rather clearly.
And he got elected over and over. Personally I would say he
was one of the least patriotic modern day Senators ever, pure intolerance.
But at least he let you know he believed in a very diff. sort of America.

i can't say i look back on the lives of either george wallace or strom thurmond and think they added to society.

but george wallace at least recognized the harm he did and spent the very latest part of his life trying to amend. and strom thurmond had the grace to mask his racism later in life.

jesse helms was (hopefully) the last of the unrepentant white racist national politicians.

defend him all you want. i'm glad his kind of politics in on the wane.

Oddly enough..."evil" comes from the Hungarian word----evaultosh.

Yes.

It meant...I would like to pet her.

Don't recall you ever saying you lived in NC. I, however, did.. Like most of the current neo con phonies, Helms masterfully traded on fear to stay elected, a prequel to the playbook for the current scum in office. He eagerly blocked progressive measures in the Senate for years. Evil? Yeah, I'm funny that way. I tend to find those that go out of their way to inhibit the quality of life of others, evil.

Spyder reporting from the Carolinas';

When I came down here from Cleveland in 1974 I was shocked to realize that the Civil War had not ended.

Visiting my Southern girlfriends parents in Smithfield, NC I was welcomed by a sign coming into town..."The KKK Welcomes You to Smithfield"
.......oh boy!

Many people here hated blacks and Northerners. It was obvious.

Helms was from that mold and used that wedge to motivate these people for years and years. It was quite sad to see such limited vision by actual human beings. I found it quite refreshing when a friend was asked why he was here by some of these people to reply...."I just wanted to come down here to see what we won!"

But times have changed. It seems most people are from Ohio, PA, and NY.

Still in the backwoods, and there are plenty, these attitudes still exist.

It is not uncommon for politicians to play on people's fears to get elected or to stay in office.

Are you consistent with your criticisms of campaigns playing on people's fears? For example, if a Republican does an anti-affirmative action commercial to tell people that minorities are taking their jobs, is that any worse than a liberal candidate telling women that they may lose their right to chose(abortion) if the Republican candidate wins?

These types of campaigns are dirty, but they are common in politics. Both parties are guilty of playing on people's fears.

There's an old Armenian proverb that says it is bad luck to speak ill of the dead.

Maybe you could move back to NC and run for office.

Some people say one man cannot cause change. Others say that is the only way it happens.

As an aside, if you are looking to read more about other racially based career politicians, take a close look at Obama's chief political starategist, David Axelrod, poverty pimp extrordinaire.

Oooh.. Convenient proverb.. Can't I just get some jajek and more lavosh instead?

I usually stay out of this arena, something I decided years ago at ESPN when Repent was looking to turn me into the FBI for my socialist leanings. I have no idea what your point is above and couldn't care less about Obama and David Axelrod. My interest in the election is nil.

Helms spoke ill of the living. Find us a proverb for that.

Talk about putting sh*t on top of whip cream. You read this guys article, you would think Helms is sitting beside the right hand of God as we speak.
