Default "Lee Tomlinson" (Artie Kaufman)

I understand that Lee Tomlinson has passed away. He had evidently been battling cancer. Very sad news. I used his mud and turf figs for years.

Very sad to hear.. Spoke to him a month ago. This summer Chuck's dad and someone were debating about whether a certain Tomlinson distance rating in DRF was valid for turf, (or something like that), and I said, "How about we call Tomlinson and get the answer?" He was delighted we called and said he was hoping to get to Saratoga for a couple of days with his friend Charlie Judge who is also a figure/rating maker of note.

Lee Tomlinson loved racing and made a lasting contribution to it. I know some people don't think much of the system, but I can remember when I first started ordering his sire ratings books and would be so excited when the latest edition would arrive. I'd sit down to work out the numbers for offspring. It would be exciting to discover a 20-1 juvenile that had a high score for mud or turf. And you would feel so clever when you cashed with a runner that you found with the 'Tommies' because you felt you had info that most didn't.

Will reach out for Judge to have him talk about Lee on ATR tonight.. RIP..

Unhappy

His turf & mud figures were the first racing tool I had very good success with in the early 90's. I learned about his product thru a friend of mine & Tom and Nick from Trackfacts.....I made a lot of money with young 2yr.olds debuting on grass with his numbers. He'll be missed RIP

The inventor of a system that, flawed or not, I'm glad is still in the DRF, and one that has led to a good deal of money saved and made for this horseplayer.

Takes a lot of guts to try to quantify the complex, abstract world of breeding, and I prefer Tomlinsons to that Dosage stuff any day of the week.

RIP Lee Tomlinson.

Tomlinson's long time friend trainer Bob Dunham will join us on ATR tonight to talk about "Artie"... Tomlinson's real name was Art Kaufman.
