Default A belated thanks from across the pond...

...I know it's a bit late, but to all of you Yanks, well done on electing someone all of us can get excited about as President. I'm as cynical as they come, and the hopes that have been invested in Obama are unrealistic, but he's still an amazing human being (not just relative to his predecessor), someone who can change the landscape of our troubled world, and a man who deserves our best will. Good luck Barack, good luck America!

Sorry for sounding a bit soppy!

Harry,

We'll do anything here to get you to start posting your punts again!

Steve, sorry should have posted this in pol/soc in the first place.

Really enjoyed your 'Newest Column' on the homepage re stewards. You'll be unsurprised to know that the same problems abound over here. From a bettor's viewpoint all you can ask for is consistency, and that's the one thing we lack. Stewards over here appear to be privileged members of the aristocracy who enjoy a free lunch/drink before casting their untrained eyes over proceedings. There is recourse for appeal, but that will happen several weeks after and, if the verdict is overturned, it doesn't change a losing ticket into a winning one. You lose on the day, you've lost. I can think of three instances where I've backed a horse who, weeks later, has been awarded the race yet I've had to mark down as a loser. Stewards are the bane of my flippin' life!

As for my punts, you may know that I'm predominantly a jumps man nowadays, and all I can suggest is that you back Diamond Harry for the Ballymore Properties Hurdle at Cheltenham in March. In my life I've never been so excited about a horse before. On the Flat, the horse to follow in Europe this year very much is Crowded House; the guy who owned Wilko and Red Rocks has him, and he just looks monstrous.

Truth be told, I'm a staunch conservative, but now that Obama is in office, I wish him the best of luck. Just makes me a little weary when everyone and their mother from other countries actually likes America's choice of President. Guess I've grown accustomed to being hated and feel more comfortable that way.

the only people acting like that are the right winger's trying to stuff the characterization down everyone's throats.

i'm happy we have a thoughtful moderate president. that's good enough for me.

i guess maybe i'd set up straw men to battle if i was out of idea's. but i hope i never find out.

here's where you are wrong and maybe it's because you are on the west coast and i'm 90 miles away. people here or that have been passing through making him out to be the "greatest" already, how's he's going to save the world.

the disrespectful display that obama supporters put on whistling, booing and cheering President Bush and Mrs Bush's appearance as the left was awful at best! they even chanted and sang "good-bye".
i'll stop before i get myself in trouble.

since no one else has the manners, i'll say thanks.

most of us feel pretty good about having someone who can string words together into coherent sentences and sentences into coherent thoughts in the white house.

I would sincerely like to know what is amazing about him. Outside of just running for office I see zero.

Like this was not already going on...

This guy has inherited an absolute mess.
But just like always, politics transcend patriotism.
Some are just waiting for him to fail and jump.
Some are actually hoping he fails...

Its relatively easy to tell by the posts.
Conservatives are supposed to be patriotic my arse...

Thank ya. Anyone rooting for Obama to fail isn't an American, instead a treasonous loser. I never rooted for Bush to fail. I merely was unsurprised when he did.
