Default visa card compromised

just got a call from visa fraud protection. seems someone got my hubbys debit # and has gone on quite a shopping spree in atlanta. they got suspicious because we used his card yesterday in arkansas, while someone else was using it yesterday and today in georgia. about $900 so far.

anyone have any experience with this, and how do you avoid having your # end up in the wrong place or with the wrong people?

Tell them to cancel the card and send you a new one with new ##'s. You won't have to pay for the charges. Had lost mine and reported it missing after someone bought $2K worth of electronics.

Should not be a problem. You can also buy a fraud protection program. Google it. $20-$30 a month.

they turned off the card as soon as tony said we were here and the card was in his possession. just ticks me off knowing some douchebag just got about $900 worth of stuff on his card. and they don't even have his card, so i don't even understand how they're doing it. kroger, foot locker, wal-mart....and we'd have to go back to atlanta to file a police report, so they'll most likely get away with it.
and then there's that it's friday night, the bank is closed, and can't do anything about it til monday.

be carful where you use the debit card , a machine in a store or an airport does not provide the same type of safety as an atm machine inside a bank

we only used it at a few restaurants-everything at the hotel we charged to our room and paid for at one time, including parking. we bought the hockey tix ahead of time, picked up at will call. so, that leaves max lager, hard rock cafe, mccormick and schmicks or the hilton. or the ihop later tuesday morning....

but we paid at the register on the way out, so i don't think it's that place. more likely one in which you hand your card to the waiter and they walk off to run it-and help themselves as well?

we're pretty sure it was one of the three restaurants-that was the only time the card was out of our sight, and they said it was swiped and a card made..

one place it was used was lady foot locker-and we only had one waitress. of course, that doesn't mean she's 'the one'.
