![]() I'm trying to do some quick research for a piece of racing memorabilia.
Usually I'm at least adequate on research, but hitting a wall while verifying if there was a difference between the "Cabrillo Stakes,"......"at 5 1/2 furlongs," and the "Cabrillo Handicap." I'm talking late 1970's. Cursory internet searches have not been clear at this point. Anyone know if the "Cabrillo Stakes" was held at Hollywood Park in the late 1970's? I think it must have been. But I'm also getting hits for Del Mar and the "Cabrillo Handicap" in the same time period. In this search I've recently learned that many "venerable races" of thoroughbreds have had name and location changes over their past 100 years. |

![]() I'm pretty sure the Cabrillo Stakes was for two year olds at Hollywood Park. It might have been renamed or just dropped. The Hollywood Juvenile Championship was a bigger deal in those days as more trainers unveiled their good ones earlier.
