Default Oaks--Lack of horses

I went to the backside this morning to watch some of the horses work. This will be my 11th or 12th year going on the bacside the week before Derby and I cannot remember seeing fewer horses for the Oaks during that time. I guess R.A is scaring everyone away.

In addition, it seems as if all the trainers like to work their horses prior to 6:30am. I missed the two Godolphine horses this morning. I am heading to the backside Sat and Sun morning and I hope to see a little more activity.

Flying Spur has races good enough to win the Kentucky Oaks in years past - and she's probably going to run a soundly beaten 3rd in this years Oaks.

If you're not RA, Justwhistledixie, or FS ... you're going to finish 4th at best unless one or more of those three just totally does not fire.

While I'm not necessarily saying she's a definite threat in the Oaks, I wouldn't be surprised to see Gabby's Golden Girl develop into a nice horse down the road. In fact, she, Heartless Vixen (who beat GGG in a sprint allowance), and Witty, are all CA fillies that were more than a little unlucky not to have enough foundation to take on Stardom Bound at SA this winter.

There are probably only 6 horses this year. I know Fitz Just Right dropped out cause of injury. Looks like RA in a romp but Justwhistledixie could be second.
