Champion Sunline Euthanized Friday, 1 May 2009: Champion mare Sunline has been euthanized early this morning after a lengthy struggle with Laminitis. The amazing mare trained by Trevor and son Steve McKee had been battling Laminitis for approximately nine months. A number of options were exhausted in trying to nurse Sunline back to health to little avail before the McKee family made the decision to euthanize the popular Sunline early this morning. Steve McKee will address the media on the tragedy later today. A privilege to watch her race, Sunline leaves us with many great memories amassing 13 Group 1 victories. Sunline regularly demolished top class Group 1 fields, case in point being her seven length win in the 2000 Cox Plate making it back to back wins in the event. She also won The Doncaster, Coolmore Classic and All Aged Stakes each on two occasions. Inducted into both the Australian and New Zealand Racing Hall Of Fame, Sunline left racing with a 32 wins and 12 placings to her credit along with prizemoney in excess of $11million from 48 starts.

Really devastating to hear this.
My favourite horse ever, by about the distance she won her second Cox Plate by. I don't think any horse will ever go close to replacing her. The greatest. |
