Default What Is The Worst Preakness.......

finish by a Derby winner while finishing the race? So without counting DNF like BARBARO.

i think it was swales poor finish that holds the record for worst by the derby winner. of course he redeemed himself by winning the belmont. and then he dropped dead, which was a damned shame.

Sea Hero finished 5th by 8 with an 85 Beyer. Monarchos was 6th by 7 with a 99 Beyer- but was like 7 wide into the stretch. Those are the only two I can remember in recent times that have missed the board.

Several others have actually run faster because of easier trips than the rugged Derby.

Zev won the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont in 1923....but finished 12th in the Preakness.
I'm not sure, but I think that is probably the worst.

Thanks that helps now to something a little more modern time to see if this might be worth looking into after this years Preakness.
