Default Triple Crown Winner - a possibility?

OK, I'll say it: This could be the year.

Mine That Bird's sire is Birdstone, and we all remember how he defeated Smarty Jones in the Belmont in 2004. If MTB has his father's ability at a long distance, and it seemed that he had plenty left at 1+1/4 mile in the Derby, then it really will come down to the fact that the Preakness is in 2 weeks.

If many of the other Derby runners drop from the Preakness as they have in past years, Mine That Bird has a shot.

Actually looking forward to following the absolute toasting and hyjjinx that your post is going to be met with... These guys are brutal , quite imaginative and often hilarious in thier response to utterly absurd postings such as the one you just made.

I'm looking forward to that too. I've had many laughs reading other posts like that.

Just thought I'd put something up when I saw that Birdstone was his pop, and he did win the Belmont. That's all. It is of course much more likely that it won't happen.

Pretty sure this thread belongs in the Eso room under '"have you heard any good jokes lately"

I don't know if the poster was being silly, but I took his question seriously. I know it is a very extreme position to take, but I am always open to ideas. Look no one thought this horse was in the race to win the derby and if someone had posted he was going to win by almost 7, the van probably would have been called to take them to the ward. Still it was a 7 length victory and again if he didn't get the inside trip he still probably would have won. Off track and a liking to CD may have also been factors. Wait and see approach here. Slug or for real...

To me , the horse can run so he'll be single digits in the Preakness and the probable fav . The Belmont , let's take it one race at a time .

I don't think Birdstone was the reason Smarty lost the Belmont....

There is a far greater chance he never wins another race ever than the Triple Crown. As a matter of fact I think he wont win again this year. Anywhere.

He has a shot, though a slight one. I see this going 1 of 2 ways, either he runs up the track at Pimlico or he has truly improved from his Sunland races. If he runs up the track at Pimlico it wouldn't be a very attractive position since he is a gelding, he may be a derby winner that one day hits the claiming ranks. I'm going to wait to see what he does at Pimlico before casting judgement, he was the Canadian 2 yr old of the year so there is a base to atleast build from.

if the preakness and belmont come up the same muddy mess, and everyone leaves the door open on the rail again-sure, it could happen.

it could happen also that i turn out to be the illegitimate child of the queen of england and the pope. now, that would be something.

i doubt mine that bird can go where the likes of native dancer and spectacular bid could not.

At this point, Mine That Bird is the only one with a shot.

The real question is how can he NOT win the Tripe Crown? This horse and his connections are the epitome of brilliance...

The savior of racing has been revealed.. his name is Mine That Bird...

if anyone thinks the derby is a good indication of how these horses will do the rest of the year....let me bring up smarty jones' derby. a lot of people knocked the results, since only two horses ran a lick on that surface. this surface was in even worse shape.
you had one horse-ONE- who ran well. he inexplicably ran thirty-odd points better than his previous best, while everyone else was subpar. had that race been anything other than the derby, most of that field would have scratched. taking the results of that race as gospel would be a mistake imo. yes, horses can run well after maturing over the spring. but this particular win is more than that. the horse will have to win without the rest of the field clunking it up for me to think he's anything to watch for, bet on, next time out.
