Questions about tracks and connections to Breeders Cup

The Summer Bird thread got me thinking.

How much power does the Breeders Cup have over racetracks in saying what kind of stakes they can have during BC day?

I ask this because there are many a solid dirt horse not pointing to the BC due to synthetics and since alot of the stakes races in the fall are preps for the BC there will be plenty of BC caliber horses sitting in their stalls that day and ready to race.

Now why wouldn't NYRA and Churchill put their heads together and offer similar races, albeit not for the millions they go for in the BC, but maybe split up some races between the two tracks on conventional dirt and offer solid stakes money?

Each could hold one of the Juvenile race for the 2 yr olds for about 200k, one could hold the sprint for about 300k and then they can split the Distaff for 400k and the Classic for 500k.

You have to figure that handle is up those days and should compensate for the rise in purses.

Now my question is again what power does the BC have that they could stop this from happening?

The BC could just never take the event back to Churchill or Belmont. I am pretty sure that Churchill has a tax exemption from the city that requires them to bring in the BC so from their standpoint it would be suicidal to go to war with the BC.

We'll from what ive heard in the past the track really arent making that much money, if any off the Breeders cup anyways. But think of the money they could make if they put on their own card and get the Racheal Alexandras out of their stalls. The BC is real not as exciting to me anymore and tracks need to do something to disrupt the establishment and have them get their act together.

Churchill was complaining that they didn't want the BC anymore cause they weren't making enough money. Then the city reminded them of the tax exemption in place that were contingent on the BC coming to Louisville. At that point Churchill quickly reversed course and got the 2010 BC. The tax exemptions are far more important to Churchill than the money they make from hosting the BC.

Well then why wouldnt Belmont put on a mini BC, how much does it really affect NYC that the BC doesnt come there. I think the turnout to see Racheal this year would be tremendous for them and bigger if the BC was there. This is just for one year and if they decide to take it back to synthetics they can just do it again. ITs unfair that dirt horses have to sit out the best day of racing because the people running the BC are DUMB

Would the mini BC really be much different than Jockey Club Gold Cup Day? If anything it would be the poor man's version of it since they'd lose the horses that went on to the BC.

you're starting to sound like the dirt-whinos at PA

Rachel or Summer Bird don't qualify for the group of horses that have to sit out. They handle the surface fine.

Might be tough to pull that off since they'll be running at Aqueduct that day.

i mentioned this in another thread. belmont could card a big day and the races may be BETTER. but i also said they probably would not have the political will to do it. even though the BC claerly has been slighting NYRA. i love horse racing and hate to be negative but certain forces are at work that have made horse racing suffer. these braintrusts that run the BC are idiots! the "synthetic" craze that rushed in has been a complete debacle. when racing needed to "step up" to compete with other gaming businesses, the powers that be totally shot the game in the foot. if some of these tracks fail and become condo parks. alot of the blame falls on the management of racing, period!
