![]() So my Old Man came over to watch the Preakness and he brought his box of "racing stuff" to give me before he moves to Florida. The Old Man had a lot of friends around the track (Monmouth Pk) back in the '80's. One particularly close pal of his was a retired jockey who exercised horses for Jimmy Croll, which is where the most interesting items came from. Some highlights:
Pic of Spectacular Bid winning the 1980 Haskell auto'd by Shoe. Three B&W 8x10's of Spectacular Bid winning the 1979 Meadowlands Cup. 1987 Haskell (the best one) program auto'd by all the jockeys. Photos of Secretariat, Seattle Slew and Affirmed auto'd by the photog, Tony Leonard. A horseshoe box containing 4 shoes marked "Holy Bull 5/4/94", which was 3 days before the Derby. He was told the Bull wore them during the Derby. Could be I guess. They have plenty of CD mud in them. A pair of shoes from Housebuster and Bet Twice. Unfortunately they are not labeled; we don't know which pair belonged to whom. Can anyone identify the jockey in this pic from Monmouth Park with Joe DiMaggio? JoeD.jpg |
