Default Israelis ... Just Plain Stupid Or What?

Well, they captured Hassan Nasrallah.

Unfortunately, this Hassan Nasrallah is a 54 year-old grocer who looks as much like Hezbollah General Secretary who goes by the same name as do thousands of Arabs, as I resemble Mr. Ed.

They whisked this bald, thin 54 year-old off, marching him to a helicopter for transport back to the motherland for intense interrogation.

Though it was obvious to the Israelis that he was just a grocer, they interrogated him for hours while he was kept shackled (apparently they were concerned he's attack them with a concealed eggplant?).

They kept this innocent grocer captive for THREE WEEKS until the Israeli Supreme Court ordered him released.

Brilliant capture? Well, no.

Plainly cruel racism indicative of prevailing Israeli "collective punishment" dogma? Well, maybe.

Just plain stupid? Well, maybe more so.

Who's to say? Certainly a waste of time and supporting U.S. tax dollars.

And this proves what?
Isolated incidents like this occur in any conflict...they aren't right, an affront to decency and, as you say, stupid...but they happen! The US attacked the wrong island looking for the Pueblo, sent choppers that couldn't fly in the desert to rescue Iranian hostages; the Brits shot that poor guy in the head how many times? All he was doing was going to work! It's amazing how many acts of simple stupidity occur in this world every day...the implication that this indicates the Israelis are any different than all the rest of us is absurd.

Absurd? Really? here's a bit more from the story... remember it took 3 weeks to release him. They knew who this guy was and who he wasn't in a day. They used him as a bargaining chip. For what? A better price on pistachios? It took the Israeli SUPREME COURT to get this guy released. That's what is absurd.

"Mark Regev, a spokesman for Israel's Foreign Ministry, acknowledged Wednesday that an error was made.

He laughed at the idea that the common names had anything to do with it.

"There was no case of mistaken identity. We know very well who the real Hassan Nasrallah is," he said."

At least they released him instead of chopping off his head. I love how people want certain groups to act properly and do what is right while other groups can do no wrong. Makes no sense to me. It is a war, there are no innocent people during a war.

Israel just lost a war. They are now grasping at anything for public relations reasons. Not a smart move to start a war you can't win but if you are going to start a war atleast finish it. What was the point in what they did? Nothing.

Even though I have him on "Ignore" ... I could see his post when you responded to it.

Might you not have pointed out to him ... not that it would do any good ... that Israel HAS a Supreme Court ... which can issue orders that other Israelis obey ... out of respect for the Rule Of Law ... something dramatically absent in Arab "cultures"?

So dumb he doesn't even understand when he's undermining his own arguments.

Good point in both ways....Israel is a democracy, something the Jew haters on this board like to ignore and of course that point would have done no good whatsoever! This game is lame and boring...pick out any mistake, large or small and blow it up into an indictment of Israel...oh my god, those Jews did that!? How terrible!! Meanwhile the terrorist animals are lopping off the heads of innocent civilians...I guess you don't need a court system once you remove someone's head!

You guys are incredible.

Anytime anyone takes an opinion not in line with pro-Israeli positions, you label them Jew Haters and lovers of terrorists? That's laughable and lamentable. I'm anything but either of those. I do however, see the world in all of it's dimensions and I am admittedly not the hugest fan of the incumbent Israeli leaders. That's it. Nothing more. Nothing less. You can go on ahead now and continue labeling anyone who disagrees with how you see the world as a Jew Hater. That, some people would say, is bigotry at its worst, but at least it is the easy way out.

You label yourself by the content of your posts....over and over, Israel bad, terrorists good! I simply point out the obvious!

I agree the Jew Hater or Minority hater crap is ridiculous. Anytime somebody disagrees it means they hate Jews or Blacks or Hispanics. You can like Jewish people and not like the Israeli government. Last i checked there were plenty of Israelis that don't like their government policy. That doesn't make them Jew Haters.

Keep observing my methodology ... and learning from it ...

... deconstruct their actual words ... and turn the tables on them.

Every argument they raise is deeply flawed ... ferret out the flaws ... and whomp them with them.

Israel has never started a war. This one was started because of 2 soldiers being kidnapped by Hezbollah, not to mention the one kidnapped by the Palestinians. The Muslim population accounts for 20% of the worlds population. To this day they have 7 Nobel prize winners. The jews account for 0.02 % of the worlds population and have over 100 Nobel prize winners, and lets not get into the other contribution to society. After the holocaust one of the darkest times our world has seen did the Jews go and blame the whole world, start yelling for revenge, teach there children to become suicide bombers, dance in the streets at catastrophes (WTC),hijack planes, kill olympic athletes.Did they have the type of money that oil is now producing? If a certain part of this world adopting a more standard form of education like, math, physics and medicine instead of blaming someone else for there plight in life maybe there lives would be better also.

Mermaid,
I find a lot to agree with in what you say.
My quest has been to find peaceful solutions to the problems that cause hatred.
Here's something you might find interesting.

Way too much pro-Israeli righteous indignation still going on.

It's truly debateable that the 2 IDF soldiers were kidnapped from Israel. Much, if not most, of the world believes the Lebanese police who say otherwise.

Think or believe what you wish. But remember, just because you think it does not make it so. I prefer to have an open mind when viewing the world.

I find it is much better to develop my own opinions instead of blindly believing what people say and write.

Whether you want to believe whether they were kidnapped is your perogative. The other things i stated are factual. No matter who you are if you're constantly blaming someone else it's a prescription for failure.I'll give you 2 examples, myself being the first. There was a time i blamed my company because i wasn't earning enough.15 years ago i took a long look at myself and realized it was me and that instead of blaming them, maybe i need to put that wasted energy into my job.And mind you i was going nowhere.Today i love my job and treat it like it's my own business. Thanks to my change of attitude other things fell into place.I'm married with 2 wonderful kids and wife with a house, dog, cat, hamster and 2 fish.none of this i could ever of attained with the path i had been on.The 2nd example is friends of my parents who we have out at our house at least once a year. What do these 4 couples have in common all survivors of the holocaust with there tattoos as reminders. The wives were not able to have children because of experiments that were done on them, and 2 of the couples were in the death march out of Auschwitz walking through the forest naked. These people could have lived the rest of there lives blaming the Germans but instead of looking back they looked ahead and all were very prosperous having come to the United States with nothing. In fact 2 of them drive Mercedes. My point is when you wake up every day and do nothing but harbor resentment and use all your energy no matter what nationality for that your doomed.

Well, I appreciate all that. My Armenian grandmother was the only child (of 8) to survive the genocide. They lived in Keyseri, in central Turky.

I don't misguide my energies (at least not as much as my wife says). I guess it's good that you figured out the work thing. It's no fun being in a bad position at a bad company. Hell, I know what that's like too.

I live in a south Florida neighborhood with lots of Jewish neighbors. They're all good people for the most part. Sure there's some that look at me sideways, but that's true of any nationality. I actually get along far better with the more senior neighbors as I find the stories of the "old country" always interesting whatever the heritage of the person telling the tale.

The wives you mention are surely victims. So are my realatives still in Baghdad. However, neither really has more importance than the other in how I see the world. I'm not a fan of the current Israeli politics and I see the world different than you. If that's a sin, then by all means string me up.

So, to better understand your points here, are you saying that we should choose sides based on the number of nobel prize winners one culture has over the other? Or how they respond to catastrophe? Or how a percentage of the population chooses to act?

Do arabs have a righteous beef as far as blaming other for the plight of some of their citizens? Perhaps you should read your history books before you answer.

Beyond any of that, why should we "choose" if we are going to side with Jew or Arab? I dont side with either. My point is that US policy has been unfair toward Arabs and has been a little too Pro Israel. But that doesnt mean im "anti israel" and it doesnt mean im "pro arab". Why do we have to be labeled for having an opinion?

The old, worn-out "moral equivalence" dodge.

Here's a little clue for you ... there can't be moral equivalence ... because the terrorists are toally amoral.

Your lame attempts to spin your abiding hatred ... are both pathetic and transparent.

ok, BB is off track again. The topic, of course, is whether the actions of Israel kidnapping the Lebanese grocer were dumb, cruel or whatever.

All we've gotten from this "raving radical" is that terrorism is bad. Well, this is not 3rd grade and yes, terrorism is bad.

Why is it that anyone who questions the Israeli government the "cut and run" Bold Brook already wants out of office has to be a Jew Hater and Terrorist supporter in need of a refresher course on the Holocoust? We all know about it as well as the Armenian genocide.

Rational people have the common skill of discourse and at least staying on topic.

This ranting, raving radical apparently lacks this skill, among many others.

But, Bold Brook, that's ok. There are many like you out there, though dwindling in numbers. You're safe in the cocoon for now. But be careful about what you read. You may actually learn something.
