BP DECIDED NOT TO ATTACH 2ND BLOWOUT PREVENTER, ALLEN SAYS
By Jim Polson
June 1 (Bloomberg) -- BP Plc has decided not to attach a
second blowout preventer on its leaking well in the Gulf of
Mexico and efforts to end the flow are over until the relief
wells are finished, according to the U.S. Coast Guard’s Thad
Allen, who spoke at a press conference today.

I would say containment in the Gulf is the best we can hope for. There is a possiblilty the entire east coast gets affected by the end of this. A complete and utter cluster****.

Im curious to know why we havent called the Army Corp of Engineers in to see what they think can be done ......and bill BP for it. It seems our government is very content to just sit by and let BP do all the decision making.

My guess is they knew they couldn't stop it from the beginning. Pure window dressing for a month to buy time.

I'm quite sure the ACE have been called/consulted, but I don't think deep water oil well plugging is one of their specialties. How much actual help they can offer, is probably very limited. They will probably be more helpful in the containment and clean-up.

Our government is not sitting by and letting BP do the decision making.

Guess they are worried that they'd make an even worse situation (didn't they say this could even be worse.) Nobody likes to talk about it, but they could make it even worse. For all we know, they did make it worse, and the press will catch up to that in a week or so.
