Default Deja Vu all over again

I apologize in advance if this has already been posted or mentioned, as I have not been following closely all the BP/Oil disaster threads, but.....

THE SAME FRICKIN THING HAPPENED IN 1979! How did they deal with it then? What were the results of their containment efforts?

Watch for yourself:

That one was probably Bush's fault too.

So 30 years ago we had essentially the same thing happen and yet virtually noone recalls it happening? Does this mean that the ecological damage that is supposedly going to take "hundreds of years" to recover from is being overblown? I mean I don't see any of the oldtimers down there being interviewed saying this is the worst spill since 79. It seems like no one even remembers it.

Monday-Tuesday, in the Congressional hearings, the CEO's of five oil companies stood before congress, and when Ixtoc was spelled and mentioned, all five shook their heads in lack of recognition. It was pathetic, and appalling. Ignorance doesn't mean it never happened.

I read about that spill a few weeks ago, there was in article in the Philly Inquire I believe.

It was gigantic - as big or bigger than what we have right now (though we dont really KNOW what we have right now, cause the number keep getting higher and higher!).

According to the newspaper article, if I remember correctly, is that hurricanes actually really helped the spill.. and it dispursed & diluted the oil throughout the water to where it much of a problem from this enormous spill.

I was 15 at the time, and don't have any recollection of it at all. But there was no internet (and cable tv was in it's infancy).

Actually, its Obama's fault. I wonder if they do the whole "drill baby drill" bit (pun intended) at the next RNC.

Or they can always take the Democratic position and lament that engines designed to run on gasoline are "addicted to oil".
