![]() Has anyone been following this guy at Philly? I know the typical responses we are sure to see here from the usual cast of characters, but the numbers he is putting up are downright obscene.
On Saturday, he started five horses, all five were winners, and the longest-priced winner was 2.9-1. All were favorites...but still. Through Saturday 7/17, Juan Guerrero had 140 starters and 60 wins, 28 seconds, 19 thirds for a win % of 42.9% and ITM of 76.4%. Phil Aristone and Ed Auwarter trail Guerrero each by 11 wins (49 a piece through Saturday) and had a combined 349 starters more than Guerrero. |

To me, what has been most impressive about Guerrero is how strong he's been off the claim this year. Guerrero has a 21-15-2-2 record 1st start off of the claim in 2010. That's a strong 71.4% win percentage and a dazzling $3.62 ROI. 2nd start off of the claim Guerrero is 20-11-3-3 with a $3.34 ROI. He was always great from an ROI standpoint in these categories .. but this years he's finally seeing the win percentage category break out. '08 and '09 1st start off of the claim: 30-11-5-7 (37% wins and $3.83 ROI) '08 and '09 2nd start off of the claim: 24-10-4-4 (42% wins and $2.64 ROI) Honestly ... guys like Guerrero sometimes feel like the true superstars in this game. The horses are running less and less often - most divisions are a bit subpar compared to years past - but there's always a trainer or three out there bringing the kind of magic that had been missing to that extreme in the Pre Mullins, Dutrow, Steph Beattie era when I was following racing. |

![]() He is like Woody Stevens, Charlie Whittingham and Sunny Jim Fitzsimmons all rolled up into one fantastic trainer! Surely some big owners should give him a few million dollars worth of horses as he could probably win a few Triple Crowns and maybe even sweep the Breeders Cup card if they keep those pesky Europeans out of the turf races.

![]() I got so bored with watching the Juan Carlos show yesterday at Philly Park, that I started wagering on Ft. Pierce Jai Alai (and happened to pick the winner of 3 games in a row)...
I really don't see how it is good for racing when certain trainers dominant like this.... |
