Diplomatic Jet? Won the Turf Classic, Man O' War, and Manhattan back in the mid 90's?

Yep. I would have bet the house no one was getting that one not named Kiri's or Rollo.
Diplomatic Jet was 7 for 13 over the Belmont turf with his 3 Grade 1 wins coming at 29/1 odds (By 4 lengths in the Manhatten) 11/1 odds (By 2 lengths in the Man O' War) and he also paid $13.40 when he won the Turf Classic. Not to mention a win at 6/1 in the Knickerbocker and that 12 lengths score in the Pilgram at age 2. |

That Champagne day was very interesting. A future champ got beat at 1/5, another future champ won by 21, and a Derby winner finished last. Name them without looking at the charts from that day...

Flanders by 21 - I'm assuming Sea Hero was the Derby winner who ran last. Not sure about who went down at 1/5?

Lure was beaten at 1/5 by a horse who was trained by the same guy who trained Trivia horse #2. I just remembered Steve Crist doing the weekend recap with Harvey Pack for that Super Saturday of old.

Was running right when I started watching racing, and on a family trip to Florida when I was 15, my mom and I rented a truck and drove to Ocala, FL to see the pretty horses. I remember we went to Double Diamond and saw a son of Personal Ensign (Proud Truth or something like that).. and then we went to Fred Hoopers farm and Diplomatic Jet was there... I was like freaking out cause I love that horse.. They let me to in his paddock and hold him on a lead rope.. he was quite a handful (not in a sumitis type of way though). Good memories.. I'm sure my Mommy has pictures somewhere. Ironically, I now live in the hell hole called Slowcala, and my house isnt too far from Hoopers old farm!

Slew the Dragon was a really nice and forgotten horse that was miserable on dirt and then moved up tons on turf.
I think he had one second in six turf starts, all the other starts being pretty easy wins. |

Still holds the TR at Aqueduct for 1 1/8th on turf. I believe that was set in the Lashkari stakes the day after the BC at the big A. Think he got beat at the Meadowlands going 3 turns. Rutgers maybe?

Name the horses that were favored in those three Grade I races Diplomatic Jet won in 1996.. One was a Scotty Schulhofer trainee that had once run in the Belmont Stakes, the other was an Arlington Million winner.. |

Future Grade 1 winner ... was an absolute bum of a horse until he started going long on the turf with blinkers. Name him. |
