It must be fairly well down the line. It can be caused by several different things, but often, if caught early enough it doesn't cause as many problems.
Hope he pulls through. Having said that, when it is caused from other infections/inflammations it is often at it's work.

i heard them talking about this saturday on one of the racing channels. a real shame. it didn't sound too good, but i'm hoping for the best. laminitis is a pernicious killer; i hope they find a cure for this and soon.
