![]() ...I know he didn't mean for it to sound this way, but here was one of his quotes to the NYRA Publicity dept. about his great meet as a rider at Saratoga...
“It has been a great experience,” Gomez said. “I won the races that I really tried to win, and I won some stakes races, too. I’ve been very fortunate. I’m going to continue to take things day by day and see what happens.” ...so, I guess the ones he lost he really didn't try very hard because they weren't that important... ![]() Its all in fun...I just got a big kick out of that when I first read it.... ![]() Some of these jocks need training on how to talk to the media at times... |

![]() I agree Joel, that is funny to hear.
Kind of like when Nakatani said he didn't think he had ever ridden in the Breeders Cup Classic a couple of weeks ago after a race in California. Corners of his mind: Next time a jockey says riding in the Breeders' Cup Classic is something you never forget, tell him to check with Corey Nakatani. After Lava Man's victory in Sunday's Pacific Classic, a reporter asked Nakatani about his experiences in past runnings of the Breeders' Cup Classic, which will be the horse's major objective this fall (Nov. 4, Churchill Downs). Nakatani said he didn't think he'd ever ridden in the Breeders' Cup's richest race but dreamed of doing so someday. In fact, he has ridden in the Classic seven times, finishing second with Deputy Commander (1997), third with Dramatic Gold (1994) and Dynever (2003). Fortunately, Nakatani's mind is sharper on the racetrack. He rode a sensational race with Lava Man, taking charge of the pace before burying the field on the far turn. Nakatani spent five days in the hospital a week earlier with a bacterial infection. If he was still groggy, it didn't show Sunday - at least during the race. I often wonder how the jockeys view the game overall. I haven't had the experience of being around them too much. |

![]() Reminds me of the Waterboy Movie. The center hikes the ball to the QB so I tackle him unless he hands the ball to the RB then I tackle him unless he throws the ball to the WR then I........ I get on the horse and I ride him from the gate to the finish line at the 1/16th pole unless the race is on the turf then I........

![]() Ahem, cough cough, Rupert, I told you the guy was an absolute mental midget.
This is going to reported to the stewards and state racing and wagering board. Guy basically says he only tried to win certain races. |

But his line was appreciated by those who watch him ride on a daily basis. Milwaukee is back in today, his ride on that mare was easily the worst ride of the meet by any jockey. Hes inconsisent and when hes in his zone hes great, but when he gets that bad zone working you just can't believe what hes doing. He trails Edgar by three, just as he did when the week started. Gomez is on the favorite in the first race today but Prado rides a super live one for Dutrow and if he wins that race its lights out for the title. Anderson and Frieze both gave incredible efforts this week to try and get the title, but as I predicted, Frieze will get the title. Frieze is the best day to day hustler of mounts that I have ever seen. Anderson is the best at getting riders on the right big money mounts. |
