Default Keeneland replacing P6 with .50 P5

Keeneland got KHRC approval yesterday to run a .50 P5 and will use it to replace its' P6...

HEGARTY (DRF): The commission also voted unanimously to approve a request by Keeneland Racecourse to offer a pick five during its upcoming spring meet. The pick five will replace the track's pick six, and have a 50-cent minimum. Rogers Beasley, Keeneland's director of racing, said that the pick six offered by Keeneland had attracted only about $10,000 in wagers each day. He said that pick five bets that had been offered recently in New Jersey and Florida attracted $150,000 to $200,000 each day. "Anything above $10,000 would probably be all right to us," Beasley said.

FYI -- yesterday according to equibase chart, Gulfstream's $.10 Pick-6 brought in $15,836

I didn't read the article yet, but any rationale given on why they didn't at least try a lower base bet on the Pick-6? Or was Keeneland's Pick-6 already one of the very few that had less than a $2 base bet?

I just hope they keep the Pick-4 a 50 cent base since they have the 50 cent Pick-5 now

Something NYRA should do? You mean drop the P6 in favor of a .50 P5? Are you high?

The 50 cent Pick 5 has been successful at tracks that either didn't offer a Pick 6 or didn't have handle on it that reached five digits on most days. NYRA doesn't qualify under either of those.

With the .50 P5 having established itself at MTH and GP, why try to re-engineer a P6 that has virtually no following? KEE's Rogers Beasley said they were getting $10k into their P6, and a P5 there could bring $100,000-$150,000 based on what we saw at MTH and are seeing at GP.

Is the Takeout going to be the same as it was at Monmouth for this wager?

Just make sure they don't follow the GP model and raise the take on other bets while they have you distracted....

I've been arguing with people since this thing was announced that still don't get it, one former newspaper writer included. The so called drop in blended take (whatever the hell that is....) was not true either.

Funny thing was the last couple years since rennovation, I seemed to be one of the few that still said good things about the place. Now people are trying to find reasons why its so great including the strung out looking handicapping chick that always flips her hair before she speaks.....

Best bait and switch I ever saw. They even got the HANA guys in their corner for "promised" future changes. Of course the fact that management at GP has changed 3 times in the last 3 years may derail that a bit.....

Now sacred Keeneland is giving the bettor "what he wants". No bad words will be said about this one I'm sure. Keeneland does no wrong (well there was that sweat shirt sample I saw once from their gift shop that had the track's name spelled "keenland". No wonder they couldn't move that one....). Hell Keeneland is so great that Secretariat won the Belmont Stakes there....

I'm only ranting here because my office is about 50 degrees right now and it is giving me warmth...but then again everything above is true
