Glad Alex scratched yesterday for this spot. Still a tough race but he shouldn't have to run down a loose on the lead speedball. Even if Pants on Fire goes off alone, I don't think he has near the talent of the Factor. The extra 16th won't hurt either.

Does anyone know the motivation for continuing to enter Liondrive in these kinds of spots?
Is it just over-zealous local owners who want to watch their horse get pummeled by 30 lengths in a Grade 2?

I was thinking the same thing....Come on Tim Ice are you worried that you will lose the owner by telling them you won't enter the horse in these kind of spots.

I don't know, but I really think she's riding about as well as anyone in the country right now. I know it's not the world's best colony down there, but she's actually got a sense of pace and shows great patience most of the time, which I can't say about too many out there right now outside of Leparoux, Dominguez, and Rosario.

I follow and play the fairgrounds on a daily basis. Its been a while since a jockey has come there dominated the standings like she has. She keeps impressing me with her skills She can flat out ride. she really seams to be able to give anything she rides a better chance with her on board. She will go to the front in a paceless race. stalk and make a perfectly timed ride to hold off the deep closers and she is just effective closing from far off the pace. She has been the best jockey by far there this meet and its not even close.

Over 2.5

Almost always a contentious early pace in the Derby, looks the case again this year.

Big kudos to Seth Merrow of Equidaily who loved the runner up at a big price.

Nehro is more interesting than Pants On Fire, IMO. Mucho Macho Man should pack it in. I don't care that he didn't need the win, but this was not a very good field

Pants on Fire is a good illustration of what horses can do when they're allowed to use the natural speed they posses.

Breen said he was entering him "as a rabbit" according to Steve Haskin... his role to make sure entrymate Nacho Business gets enough pace.

Yeah, of course there was a lightly regarded horse entered in the Derby once as a rabbit for his higher regarded stablemate, he too forgot to stop and went on to become the first of 11 horses to accomplish one of the most difficult feats in racing...his name was Sir Barton.

Haskin also added Thursday on ATR that leading up to the race, Breen was acknowledging how well Pants was doing on his own.
