Default Please God - let this horse enter the Wood

Was just scanning the noms for the Wood ... and I noticed D. Wayne had a very interesting horse he nominated.

Night Hunt .... no relation to Mike Hunt ... is still a maiden - and has only finished in front of one horse in his four race career. Never coming any closer than 23.75 lengths from victory.

However - better still - he "bore out" and was eased two starts back. Last time out he "broke inward sharply at the start" before once again being "eased" ... in other words - not only is this horse very slow .. but he also seems incapable of running in a straight line.

If people remember last year ... NYRA refused a Wood Memorial entry for some hopelessly slow Sunland filly - who was simply too slow to ever impact the race in any way shape or form.

Night Hunt has enough early speed to where he could impact the first three or four furlongs of the race - and due to his extremely erractic habits ... it's not impossible that he might bolt on the 1st turn and take someone with him. Or he might break inward again and wipe somebody out at the start.

Nothing would be better than to see racing officals have to refuse an entry from D. Wayne Lukas.

They would reject him. What's the big deal...DWL isn't who he used to be. They'd have no problem showing him the door.

This horse is being bet every time he runs at Oaklawn for some odd reason. And why in the hell did Lukas debut him in an ALW race.

Well, he's well bred, apparently the connections thought highly of him, often times a trainer has little say until a horse proves his ability (or lack there of).

what in his previous form made him 9:1 last time???? on a stretch-out with no class drop nonetheless. He must have been against some real goats.

Ok - Trivia time - both of these current 3yo's were born on April 11th.

One horse is STILL currently rated #3 on Molly Jo Rosen's Kentucky Derby list ... and the other is owned by Derby Trail poster GBBOB and trained by poster Cannon Shell.

GBBob or #3 rated Derby horse?

GB Bob or #3 rated Derby horse?

Hint ... the one with the faster numbers of the two is owned by GB Bob and trained by Cannon Shell.

The Larry Jones horse who ended up winning the race was 9-1 as well and was coming off a hopelessly fast speed duel going a route. The two horses on the inside were also destroyed at the start. It was a crazy race. I'm sure LJ cleaned up on his winner.

For what it's worth, Lukas has actually been pretty damn good at Oaklawn this meet. I know he has done OK there in the past then flopped everywhere else. He's stretching horses out, especially maidens and they're running really well because there's such a premium on speed going two turns at OP.

Those Westrock people better sell lots of coffee because they burn through millions with D. Wayne every year.

My god! That poor thing belongs in a $5000 maiden claimer at Charles Town assuming he's healthy enough to be on the track.

Thanks, I recognized the dam's name, but couldn't think of who it was and couldn't check.

The Leopard is the only even remotely decent sibling from the looks of it.

The Leopard was the Fasig Tipton Calder sales topper the year after The Green Monkey.
