Default TDN: Ashford lands Uncle Mo

Uncle Mo to Ashford Upon Retirement

A partnership deal has been agreed between Mike Repole of Repole Stable and Coolmore's Ashford Stud, whereby 2010 unbeaten champion juvenile Uncle Mo (Indian Charlie) will stand at Ashford following his retirement from racing.

“We'll see what happens in the Classic and then Todd and I will sit down with the Coolmore team and we'll decide where to go from there,” said Repole keeping open the possibility that Uncle Mo may continue to race in 2012.

A winter favorite for the Kentucky Derby, Uncle Mo missed the entire Triple Crown due to a case of cholangiohepatitis--a severe inflammation of the bile passages and adjacent liver. Returning after a near five-month layoff, the colt was just nosed out by Caleb's Posse in the GI King's Bishop S. but was back to his best when winning the GII Kelso H. at Belmont, Saturday.

“Todd Pletcher said he's never had a horse as good as Uncle Mo, so that's good enough for me,” commented Ashford Stud manager Dermot Ryan. “He's also a magnificent-looking horse by a very good sire, so we're really looking forward to having him when the time comes for him to retire,” added Ryan.

Stay Thirsty might have a say in all this. Technically, he can retire Mo and still have one of the top older horses running at 4.

Again I suspect it will be hard to keep him in training and agree with much of what has been said. Repole knows how hard it is to have a superstar maybe just maybe he thinks with his heart and not his wallet. Stay Thirsty might be a better stallion prospect then MO. Those Indian Charlie's all suck

I know it's not Balmoral, but tomorrow's Keeneland card is an interesting one. I'll worry about Mo if/when he shows up on my PPs again.

I remain hopefully optimistic.

Repole is looking no further than the Breeders’ Cup, but said he is open to racing him again in 2012.

“As long as Mo continues to be Mo, he will continue to race. Every horse is race-to-race and day-to-day, but with Uncle Mo…you watch him a little closer,” said Repole, who reached a deal with Ashford over the summer before they knew if Uncle Mo would return to racing.

“He could be a stallion on Nov. 6—the day after the Breeders’ Cup—or tomorrow if he doesn’t make the Breeders’ Cup, or next year. Todd and I will make the decision, and get Coolmore’s blessing.”

Don't get me wrong, I would love it if they race him in 2012 and maybe 2013, but truthfully, I just don't see it happening.
