It wouldn't make a difference if he did. Americans are conditioned and utterly f.ucking retarded.

keystone pipeline shot down today. they already have one line, but can't build a second one because the state dept 'can't get it all cleared soon enough'....uh, they already cleared it, but now there was a discussion about moving the thing, so they had to re-clear it...

yeah, he can sign ndaa on new years eve when no one is paying attention, but not this....might have cost him some votes in november.

The Keystone Pipeline has to be move out of the aquafier zone. The Republican party put a rushed approval without that plan as part of the tax deal.

At the time, the President said he wouldn't approve Keystone without the alternative plan, so he didn't. This was no surprise that State would not sign off on an incomplete plan, nor the President.

I don't know why anybody would support not doing the required environment review, just ignoring that. Maybe Ron Paul and Dell want the free market to protect our largest aquifier from an oil company. Not me, thanks. Love me some regulation about my water, thanks.

The GOP gambled they could force a rushed deal, and they were wrong.

Boehner owning thousands of dollars in pipeline company stock - well, he has alot of 'esplaining to do to his corporate masters about this delay.

Keystone can and will be brought back when they have the completed alternative plans avoiding the possibility of contaminating our largest aquafier supplying water to 1/3 of our country.

It's alot of fuss for something that Canada will not allow due to environmental threats, that they are only trying to divert through the much longer route through the US to get to our gulf, where the tar oil will be exported. The other downside, aside from environmental threat, is that it will raise prices on our Midwestern oil as they share the same pipeline components now.

Not much benefit for the US with the pipeline, just alot of threat to our environment. We do not get the tar oil from this pipeline refined in the US or used in the US. This pipeline will not be providing us with any "energy" or oil at all. It's all gonna be shipped overseas where the market is better. The jobs are in the hundreds, not the "thousands" as falsely maintained.

The pipeline is critical to Canada, which must have infrastructure in place to export its growing oil sands production from northern Alberta. The region has the world's third largest oil reserves with 170 billion barrels of proven reserves. Daily production of 1.5 million barrels from the oil sands is expected to increase to 3.7 million in 2025. Only Saudi Arabia and Venezuela have more reserves.

MacDougall said Harper also reiterated to Obama that Canada will look to sell its oil to Asia. Harper previously called Obama's decision to delay the Keystone XL delay a "wake up call" and said Canada is far too dependent on the U.S., which Canada relies on for 97 percent of its energy exports.

With the product of oil sands and pipeline delivery to the U.S. under perennial clouds of environmental objection, Canada wants to ensure a market for the growing production.

The price of North American oil also sells for less than oil sold internationally because of a glut of Canadian oil in Cushing, Oklahoma, so shipping the oil to Asia would command a better price.

Alberta Premier Alison Redford said Obama's decision strengthens Canada's resolve to pursue access to alternative markets.

was watching cnn this afternoon while huffing and puffing away on the treadmill at the gym; they said about 6k jobs to build the pipeline. of course i have no idea how many it takes to maintain it once it's in place-but you'd have to think a few thousand new jobs there would have an ancillary effect on economies in the regions the pipeline will traverse.
so, obama tells canada to forget it because he wants to play politics, because the republicans wanted to play politics. that's great! marvelous. once again the american public gets the shaft because our bozos in office want to try to play some stupid game.
meanwhile, canada will still do what they've got to do, but now maybe another country-they mentioned china- will reap the benefits. that's just fantastic.

this is from aug 2011-if state cleared it, why did obama blame state and say they couldn't get it cleared???

tsk tsk...yet another nail in the hope and change coffin lid.

obama-just another pol who will tell you whatever he has to in order to get votes. and it worked. i always said he was naive when he said he would perform all those feats that are gone undone.
nope, it's the people who believed him and fell for his bs hook line and sinker.

everyone want change? vote against every imcumbent in the next election. encourage everyone you know to do the same. one of the pols on the ballot do a good job? good-get him out of there before he becomes that which he currently is not. get them out before they become entrenched, before they develop that congressional attitude of 'i know what's best, and this lobbyist is awesome'. that will give a wake-up call to those who aren't on the ballot this year, but will be next time 'round. we all know the next guy won't be any better-but we need a regular flushing of that d.c. toilet.
