Default On the trail?

Why do trainers do this?

The Holy Bull(400k) draws 6 however an Allowance race same day draws Take Charge Indy,Casual Trick,El Padrino

All 3 are on the trail ,why not just run them in the Holy Bull and pick up some graded earnings? I know 4th/5th place won't pay alot but it adds up if u wanna make the Derby

If they are numbers 21, 22 and 23 on the 1st Sat in May, then they get what they deserve.

BTW, has anyone seen ElPadrino recently? Have his pin fire marks healed? he looked like he was fired about 48hrs before the Remsen.

This is what I say every April when folks are whining about the bubble horse that looks so good. Sorry if you are a late bloomer or were injured, but the rules have been in place for long enough for everyone to know the risk of being left out because they don't have graded earnings.

I'm not a trainer nor do I play one on TV, but the three you mentioned have gone two turns in their most recent races and it sends the wrong message to turn them back to one turn. You'll see at least a couple of them next month in the G2 Fountain of Youth.

O i agree with u there, just doesn't make sense. However if u are pointed to the Derby, its easy RUN EARLY GET MONEY and RELAX lol

I just get a laugh when April 28 rolls around and we have people crying that they can't get in the Derby cause of Graded Earnings and turf horses who won Poly races.

well, maybe they aren't on the trail? or maybe their trainers are working their ways up, and if the horse shows more ability, he has graded stakes still to enter?

Peaking in January and taking it easy in the weeks leading up to the Triple Crown doesn't make sense, either.

People who cry about Blue Grass, Jim Beam, and Lexington horses getting in have a fairly valid gripe.

Nah Bogey was right-all of them said they wanted to run 2 turns and not have to travel to TB. Seems all 3 of the plans are Allowance and FOY

So the FOY might look like this

Hansen
Union Rags
TCI
Casual Trick
El Padrino
Top 3 Holy
Top 3 Holy
Reveron

True it's not a good idea but seems to work. Get cash early/avoid the injury bug and run in the Derby-which is Asmussen's plan for Sabercat

This isnt a strategy, it is a prayer.

If more trainers did this we would have more good 3 year olds around after April. If you are eligible for an allowance race in late January and dont earn enough to get into the Derby it simply means you dont belong. Far too many owners/trainers agree with your theory which is why most of them wind up ruining their horses. It isnt a coincidence that fillies are HoY every year now and the Spring's top 3 yo's are generally toast by the Summer. Hell Flat Out was lucky enough to break down early enough that he could be salvaged as an older horse. Pressing maiden winners into graded stake races at this time of the year rarely works out well in the end.
