Default komen drops planned parenthood

http://shine.yahoo.com/healthy-livin...200300991.html

of course the story broke a few days ago, but it's getting more heated. note this in the story i linked above:

'Komen maintains that its decision was not politically motivated -- a spokesperson says that the move was a result of the breast-cancer charity's new rule barring grants to organizations that are under investigation by the local, state, or federal government.'

but then you read this:

The Huffington Post reports that the decision came just months after Komen hired Karen Handel to be their senior vice president for policy in April 2011. Handel ran for governor of Georgia in 2010 on a pro-life platform and promised to eliminate state grants to Planned Parenthood, even as she acknowledged that the state money did not fund abortions or abortion-related services.

"First, let me be clear, since I am pro-life, I do not support the mission of Planned Parenthood," Handel wrote on her campaign blog, which is still available in Internet archives.

When I had first read this it seemed very clear that it was a result of the hiring of Handel and her previous anti-choice positions. It is a shame because it's hard to boycott restaurants etc that support Komen because of all the good they do, but at the same time...

the stance of the woman they hired is troubling. she wanted to cut their state funding if elected, while acknowledging none of that funding they received went to abortions.
i wonder how much of the issue is services they provide, and how much is due to their name alone?

In Chicago they're reporting all of the money lost from Komen has been donated to PP including NY Bloomberg's matching 250K. All in all a win-win situation for women.

maybe PP can do an internal fraud investigation so they won't be paying the fines they do.

That matches 100% our own Republicans in Congress: trying to cut funding to Planned Parenthood, for the same false reason. It's amazing to me that this same anger over stupidity has never fallen upon our Congressmen's heads.

Too late for Komen, they've ruined their brand with the truth.

They may still be around, but they have lost the support of the millions of women and men who wrongly thought Komen was an advocate for the health care needs of women, rather than a political front organization.

We'll see who, out of the many big-name sponsors, abandons them for 2012. I'll take all my former Komen support - even brands of yogurt - and donate it directly to Planned Parenthood now. Not the same, but at least the most needy will benefit from outstanding women's health care.

Good for Komen. F.uck eugenics, Nazis, and libtards with no respect or acknowledgement of history.
