Default Tennessee passes anti-science theory, and our students can't read

Why is the United States falling behind in the world? Why are other countries outstripping us on health, science, technology?

Well, could be things like this ...

Quote:
Monday evening, a new bill (SB 893) was approved by the Tennessee Senate that will protect teachers who wish to promote "alternate" scientific theories, essentially allowing anti-evolutionists and climate change deniers a voice in the science classroom. A similar version of the bill (HB 368) passed in the House about a year ago. Advocates of the bill claim that it improves academic freedom, while its critics see it as an open door to the promotion of pseudoscience and religious doctrine within the public school system.

Good luck to Tennessee students trying to pass SAT's, gain access to college, and pass basic college science courses. You won't have the knowledge. Face it - Jesus doesn't help you in the science laboratory.

If you can read and understand the questions ...

"American High School students only read at 5th grade level"

I have a job that pays far more than $10 an hour, thanks to that education.

Good luck being the unpaid micro-tard

I make more than you sitting at home going to my mailbox 5 days a week. It's called inheritance, something that will be a thing of the past with help from Obama and all of the failures before him.

I went to a private Christain school that did not teach evolution. I passed my SAT's but I chose to be a jockey instead of going to school. There are alot of my fellow classmates and one's that graduated before me that did not learn about evolution and passed their SAT's and went on to get degree's.
For the record I believe in the process of evolution as most things that survive in this world have had to evolve to do so. I also dont believe that there was just some random bang that created intelligent life.

College professors have, for some years now, been astounded at the lack of basic education students are showing when they enter college. Science, reading, math. They are incompetent. Other countries are excelling.

Calling the bible "science" and teaching it as such is beyond absurd, and just worsens that void.

I don't anybody who went to a Catholic high school. I do know that the Catholic grade school where I grew up taught science, and students who went there were pretty smart in junior high.

There was a time when religion and science were taught separately, and both were respected for what they were. Science didn't preclude religion, nor the other way around.

I dont know a whole lot about public school or what they teach, my only experiance that is first hand is that my brother who was in public school until 8th grade couldnt read 5th grade English and that in one school year in private school he was reading his grade level. I wasnt taught evolution but I learned about it by being on the family farm and seeing things with my own eyes. I dont feel like I was slighted in anyway by not being taught evolution in school.

Seriously wondering: Did you not have any biology in high school? Or did they just skip getting into genetics and anthropology? (evolution)

I had great public schools where I grew up, was very lucky. Others: not so much, certainly.

Yes I took biology its was a requirment for graduation and I also took physics but we did not have a lab for either. The curriculum that I was taught was pretty experimental, you had to be goal orientated and there was alot of focus on your honor. I dont even know if there are schools that even teach it anymore.
