![]() Sorry to hear that.
I don't see how horse racing can survive when it pays owners more to not race good horses, than it does to race them.

![]() The consistent lack of racing by good race horses is obviously the main problem they have in terms of promoting the sport in the way they want to promote it.
It's hard to imagine another horse ever coming along even like Skip Away in terms of combining elite quality performances, consistency, durability, travel, and constant campaign from the latter part of a 2yo season all the way to the end of a 5-year-old season. Awesome Again's undefeated but champion-free campaign of '98 was basically where the trendiness of these type of campaigns all started. Frankel helped a great deal soon after and when Pletcher noticed his stats were great with layoff and freshened horses and mediocre with horses who race on less than 4 weeks rest -- he adjusted his placement to his stats. I don't see how another Skip Away is even possible in this climate. |

![]() They said the injury likely occurred a couple weeks ago when he stumbled, but wasn't he 'not quite right' earlier than that? Equibase has his last listed workout as 7/8 for 5f in 1:01 handily. Something just seems weird.
I guess it's helpful for them that he got the G1 win with that margin of victory earlier in the year. It's not like people would doubt his talent with the Derby/Preakness finishes, but his only other win is breaking his maiden. Given his ability it would've been a real shame if he hadn't gotten a graded win on his record. Of course, maybe if he hadn't they might've been more inclined to try to bring him back in the future. Who knows? The Empire Maker connection and the fact that his sire is now in Japan would've still been an issue. |

![]() His 6 race career middled that of his sires 8 race career and dams 4 race career.
The dam of Bodemeister was almost as much of a curiosity as he was. She had an extreme distance pedigree on both sides of her female line ...but was precocious and surprisingly effective over very short distances. Here is the past performances for the dam of Bodemeister -- as she won her first two races under full nelson holds. http://www1.drf.com/row/pps/untouchedtalent.pdf |

![]() Secret Circle might be next.
He was supposed to just have a minor injury after his 2nd place finish in the Arkansas Derby where he was all over the track ... he hasn't even recorded a published workout since. Here are the past performances of Secret Circle's sire (Eddington) and dam (Ragtime Hope) ... I still can't figure out where all the speed and precocity came from with him http://www1.drf.com/row/pps/eddington.pdf http://www1.drf.com/row/pps/ragtimehope.pdf |
